ok, this is something my car has had a problem with for along time i just diddn`t care, now the price of gas is so high i can`t afford to drive the car.

so i get a hesation when the motors cold, seems to be worse the hotter it is outside, also seems to be wose AFTER i fixed all the leaks in my exshust system. once my coolant temp sensor lead fell off and OMG was it horrible, but i plugged it back in and it went back to the way it`s been.

now last year i put a set of LT-1 injectors in it. i also did plugs wires, cap, rotor, this year i put in a new distributer and no i can`t set timming, i did it by ear, car idels at 600 rpm. oh ya also put in a new fuel pump, that wasn`t as hard as i thought it was gonna be. also new O2 sensor last year.

i`d love to hear any idea`s why my car only gets like 8mpg at highway speed 100km/h (60mp/h)

oh ya, my speedo doesn`t work and the car has a jet chip in it.

 

is your vehicle speed sensor working?? on my 85 it is part of the speedometer.

 

no the VSS doesn`t work at all. thats one of the codes in the computer, would it effect the milage THAT bad??

oh ya the car is a L98 350

 

is your chip matched to run the lt1 injectors (are they even higher # or not?)

 

no the chip isn`t matched to the injectors, i only used LT-1 injectors because the old injectors died last year and i bought a set off a guy on here for $50, the injectors are higher #`s ya 24lbs to the TPI`s 22 lbs i think, but i asked on here b4 i put them in and everyone said the computer can handle them and control them so they don`t dump as much fuel.

do you think it`d be a good idea to put the factory chip back in?, the Jet chip was in there b4 i bought the car.

i`ve also noticed if it`s damp out like last night the car accelerates bad, unless i drop it to the floor then it clears itself out and flys, but it`s like it`s flooding itself.

 

holy crap how many kms to a tank is that? my 88 L89 gets about 450-550kms to a tank depending on how i drive.

 

yeah the computer shouldn't be that much of a difference. I'm no expert on injectors, but that might affect mileage slightly, but not that much.

 

all of those things you mentioned will defiantly affect the mileage . get a chip burned or get 21.5 injectors . scrap that jet chip and get the speedometer working , the ecm needs to know the speed of the car to adjust things .

why cant you set the timing ? this needs to addressed or you may kill the motor ..

 

LOL, i don`t know what it gets to a tank because my speedo dosen`t work, but probly about 1/2 of what you get, if i got 500 kms to a tank i`d be SOOOO happy. i think are cars are rated for 650 kms to a tank.

so i guess tomarrow, i`m figuring out why my speedo doesn`t work, i know it`s the VSS in the tranny, i may have put the gear in wrong when i put the new tranny in. and get the timming set right, maybe new plugs and wires. new coolant temp sensor. i gotta get it running right. i`ll see if i can find a factory chip for it.

but as for gas milage, i maybe wrong at 8 mpg, but it took almost 20 bucks to go to Crystal beach and back so 35 km`s one way, and say 15 bucks worth of gas. at 1.35 a liter.

3 gallons used in total? Or each way?

Add to that your said your speedo doesn't work...so just how off is your distance?

650 kms a tank is super optimistic. Thats about the distnace from my house to my folks in Kelowna--the car can't do it. I got 22 mpg

Here is an excellent tool to convert back and forth between US and CDN measurements. A bit more accurate then your numbers.

Use the litres used and distance traveled. Plus them into that calculator on the link.

You have to start with a full tank and fill it up all the way, again---tells you how much gas used.

 

no the tank was empty i put $20 bucks in when i got back home the tank was just about empty again, in the orange.

and it`s about 35 kms from welland to crystal beach, give or take.

either way theres no way i`m gonna get the numbers from 8 to 25 mpg.

there is something majorly wrong with the car, it`s at the shop right now getting the timming set, then i`m gonna fix the VSS if i can.

 

well there ya go. You need to get exact figures if you want to determine your fuel economy. Otherwise your kinda guessing...badly

 

ok, so i fixed the VSS and set the timming to 6*

car seems to be running so much better

tomarrow i`m gonna fix the front brakes there dragging, and maybe put new wires on.
