Aftermarket Runners Question

After some quick looking, the only two brands I am seeing is SLP and Edelbrock. Any others that are not as popular brands, but work?

What are the characteristics of each, or are they about the same? Will one provide more torque over the other?

I see the Edels dont come with bolts. Will factory work, or do I need to buy the allen head kit for them?

Re: Aftermarket Runners Question

I like the look of the AS&M (Arizona Speed & Marine-Also sold by TPIS-who were asholes to me)...

They took a while to make, and some people have gotten some that had trouble mounting... do some searches... They are made from bent aluminume tubing, so they look stock, but are much bigger, as opposed to the other ones that are cast from a mold / die... (thicker, less flow)...

I like the stock look and went that route...

Stock look is nice. Esp if you have to get smog tested.

Will look them up.

Re: Aftermarket Runners Question

Ok, stock is 1.47 dia@7.25 length.

SLP and Edelbock is 1.6@6.625. So I am guessing they provide same results?

Found some Accels 1.6@6.625. they are made like stocks smooth inside.

ASM's 1.65@??

Anyone know of others? I'm guessing they are all about the same? Larger dia, shorter runners. Just some are welded like stocks, and some are cast molded?

Re: Aftermarket Runners Question

Accel and SLP are the same with different names cast into them

Stockers are feather light as are the AS&M

Cast runners are very heavy at nearly 4lbs each

If you are a plug and play type of person get a welded tube set, if you like to port them out get a cast set

Re: Aftermarket Runners Question

Thats what I was thinking from pics I have seen.

Edels and slp's are cast. Where accel and ASM are stock appearing.

But looks like all of them are slightly larger in diameter to about 1.6, and shorten the runner about 1'ish inch.

Re: Aftermarket Runners Question

i got the SLPs on my L98... they are slightly shorter. they are also like 3 times as heavy but who cares its like 2-3lbs. its all about the look. they all basically do the same thing. the SLPs are siamesed for about 1.5" at the top of the runner. everything else is the same... they basically just increase plenum area and increase RPM due to the runners being actually shorter than stock. my friend had the EDELBROCKS they were just plain ugly. the ASM ones are nice, they are light, and look stock and are supposidly alil bigger but u can hog out a SLP or edelbrock alot. most get them extrude honed and they flow really well.

as stated above... go wit wat u want as far as looks, performance on most of these is the same except the ability to get alot more outa the cast SLP/edelbrock in the future if u want by extrude honing/porting them

"they are also like 3 times as heavy but who cares its like 2-3lbs." Not after they have been hogged out.

Re: Aftermarket Runners Question

thats what i have... SLP's mildy ported... but wit a stock base... lol it sucks i did notice higher RPM pulling tho. still if ur doing the runners and u have to take everything off basiaclly u might as well do the base and get the 25-30hp that u should get. dont forget to portmatch the plenum and get the larger gaskets and be prepared to match them as well.

Re: Aftermarket Runners Question

He said it came with a set of gaskets.

I am looking for another plenum, and possibly base to as what I have is all stock virgin parts. Id rather not hack them up. These on a stock intake should be better then the bent up stock runners I got now. Then I'll work on finding more parts and opening it all up.
