Ignition gurus please help

I can't seem to find any aftermarket ignition control module for my 89 firechicken, with the L98. I called autozone and they mentioned that in their performance section, they have one made by accel that might work. Has anyone tried this one? Did it last for a decent amount of time?

Accel isn't known for their quality.

Re: Ignition gurus please help

Is it my only option cause I can't seem to find much of anything else and if it works, why not give it a shot. The problem is, I don't work for autozone anymore so I can't see what's up with parts without a part number. Is there another company that makes a module that would work?

It might work for a while.

Any particular reason you want an aftermarket one?

The stock one doesn't last as long as I expected. I need one every two months. Maybe I should stop shopping at carquest!

You're installing it correctly, with silicone grease on the heat-sink?

I find it hard to believe that you are getting a stock AC Delco control module from Carquest and thats your problem.Every aftermarket one that I've used has burned out faster than the AC Delcos and I've owned TPI thirdgens for 22 yrs.Try ordering one from rockauto.com and somewhere on this board is a discount code that you can use.

Have to agree there, and the same goes with spark plugs. Went with so many different variations of both throughout the years, and in the end, I now find myself preferring AC Delco over them all....

AC Delco all the way when it's ignition (besides wires) related.

Re: Ignition gurus please help

Thanks yet again guys, I'll look into the flamethrower module and I do use AC delco rapidfires. It's not that they last the longest, which they do, but because they take n2o so well! I always wondered what the difference is between rapidfire 1's and 2's. Does anyone know?

Darn it. I want to find something that will last. Oh well, guess the aftermarket sucks for this kind of stuff. I'll get an ac delco on monday.
