CAM help!
Ok I need help picking out a cam. I have never done this before. I have never done the cam usually just bolt-on's. My car has a 1996 vortec 350, scoogy and dickins intake, port plenum and ported SLP runners. I just ordered headman longtubes and a x pipe. what cam should I go with. valves and springs?

Re: CAM help!
Here is what I used on a 355 vortec:
Comp Cams Extreme Energy Camshaft P/N 08-502-8
Crane Valve Spring Retainer Kit – P/N 10309-1
This setup can be run without modification to the stock vortec heads since the spring/retainer kit will give you clearance for the added lift.
This is also about the largest cam I would run with a stock torque convertor.
PS. Be ready to do some tuning.

can you tune the stock unit or do you have to buy a chip or get it reprogramed? Member

Re: CAM help!
If you change the cam you will definitely require tuning (re-programming) of the spark and VE tables of the ecu. If you do not, it will run like crap. Mail order chips seldom work out well. It is best to buy the equipment to burn proms and do it yourself. Check out the DIY prom board. Lots of info there.
