Valve Spring Question Please Help...

I am in the middle of putting a new cam in my IROC, I went to replace the valve springs and there is a rotor on the exhaust valve spring that makes it taller than the intake valve spring, the machine shop told me I cant use the stock rotor cause it will come apart under the higher lift and they dont make a high performance one. In order to make up the height difference I would have to take my heads off and bring them to the machine shop. I dont want to do that. What is the verdict? The rotor causes the exhaust valve to spin, why does it need to do this? Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Valve Spring Question Please Help...

I think the rotator is there to turn the exhaust valve and evenly distribute the heat and wear on the valve and seat. Chevy and other manufacturers did this when unleaded gas came out.

Why not keep the rotators? Do your springs have alot of seat pressure?

You don't need to take the heads off if you want to remove the rotators. Just get a set of exhaust valve rotator seat spacer. They go on the head, then you install the spring and retainer. It just takes up the space of the rotator. Year One sells them.

Re: Valve Spring Question Please Help...

Well I ended up having a bad valve so our friend down at the machine shop is going to rebuild the heads and shim the exhaust valve spring so its as if the rotator was there, cause I guess the rotator will come apart under the higher lift.
