First time with the GTA at the track. Very happy with times!

Alright guys, I got the oil leak fixed so I could take her to the track. For engine mods there really isn't much of anything that would make a big difference in power I would think. I have a TPIS airfoil, MSD brand coil, 160 deg stat, and by-passed the coolant in the throttle body. One thing I know for sure is this ran the best time at 160 degrees. That time was 14.54 @ 93 mph. Not too bad for a 107,000 mile engine and tranny. When I made 2 passes and she was cooking at 220 + degrees they were 15.2 @89 mph, and 15.0 @ 90 mph. I need to figure out a way to get my cooling fans on much sooner. I don't want to put a switch in my dash. Maybe when I program a new prom for it I can program that in? Anyway I got a good base reading so now I can move on with the mods and see what helps. I want her into the consistant mid 13's and I'll be happy.

Here is a link to a video of the day I put on youtube. My buddy brought is 95 TA out for his first time ever at the track. I was surprised to see the best time of 13.8 @ 98 mph. Not bad for an LT1 with a catback exhaust and CAI.

Let me know what you guys think. I am happy with my baseline and think 13's should be easy to achive.

Nice vid,try an alluminum high flow water pump and a prom, and make sure you have your air damn on the bottom of rad support, this should cure your cooling issue.
you could also try running your ac between passes, the condenser being cold will help your radiator cool faster

headers, high flow cat, good cat back, 22-2400 stall = 13's for you!!!!
And some more practice!!

Yeh it really heats up while sitting there at an idle. The ac doesn't work and I thought if I turned it on the cooling fans should also come on but they don't . Either way I will fix the AC this spring and should have to cooling system worked out then to. I have a TPIS bigmouth intake coming on it's way and plane on TPIS runners also and porting the plenum and adding a 52mm throttle body. Also, hopefully I can afford to rebuild the tranny over the winter and have a mild stall put in at that time.

The only thing I'm worried about is I think I'll need to program a new prom for the intake. I'm sure I can find good tips for that on the forum though. Thanks for the comments and advice!

What was the 60' on your best pass? Better yet... post the entire slip. I was able to lop off over .5 with just worn out drag radials and a few rear suspension pieces on my 91'.

Re: First time with the GTA at the track. Very happy with times!

Here is my best slip in full

R/T - .201 ( horrible reaction time)
60 - 2.036
330 - 5.970
1/8 - 9.259 @ 73.84 mph
1000 - 12.126
1/4 - 14.540 @ 93.35 mph

I had street tires @ 22 psi and hooked very well. I shifted @ 5000 rpm and was running around 160 - 175 degrees for water temp. I think it was a good run, I just wish these made more power in the higher RPM.

My plan is TPIS lower intake and runners, port the plenum, add 52mm throttle body. Magnaflo cat-back exhaust (I have the 2 cat exhaust system), shortie headers of some kind, new plugs and wires, maybe some drag radials. I hope I'm into the 13's with that. I'm sure I'll have to retune her but with help from the forum it shouldn't be too bad. I've started reading tunning threads to get an idea on what to expect.

That's a decent 60', my car did 2.2's pretty much stock on radials. But my trap speed was higher - 97+. 14.474 @ 97.20 was my best on a 2.26 60 foot. So lot of my ET reduction came in the first 60 feet of the race track. Seems like a good mod list, just don't neglect suspension mods to put that extra power to the pavement.
