Money in the bank, what should i do?
Hey yal,
So here's my dilemma, I have about 2g's that happen to be burning a hole in my pocket. I really want to make this into a mean, efficient (especially on gas, which may not be possible I don't care) street machine. What mods can I do, to get some really ponies outta this 350. I read a thread once that someone said work from the rear-end to the engine. Its better to mod a engine when you have a built rear-end to support it? Do you guys follow this idea or should I do something else?
Thanks, 3rd

Headers, better exhaust and cam. Then new injectors, AFPR, plenum porting, followed by better heads.

You really should give the money to me. I still need a trans brake and a new rear when I blow it up.
Seriously though, the drivetrain can handle plenty of power before it starts breaking. Technically you should start with the braking system. It does you no good to get the car moving if you can't stop it before driving up under somebody's lifted truck.
After brakes, hit the exhaust and then the intake. You gotta make it breath.

If you're like me, and seldom scrape together much more than $1,000, then do the heads first, while you can. I'd say AFR 180s, as these can be sent back to AFR to be CNC'd up to 195s if you ever go 383.

Atila,
I was think of doing a 383 stroker build, but not til after I get outta college and get a real job. If thats the case, what heads would be good for a temp 180cc that I can then bump up to a 195cc? And inst aluminum better that steel? Sorry if I seem like such a noob, I build computers, not cars, but im willing to do whatever it takes to learn.

The best thing you should do is a cam, heads and new exhaust from the headers back.

I say save your money until you come up with a concrete idea and
a blueprint of sorts for the motor. Take the car off the road, build it
and tune. Anything else is just frustration and listlessness.
Doing it piece by piece is problematic, especially for the uninitiated!
If only I could go back four years... I wonder what kind of power
I would make now and the money saved if I knew the stuff I do now..
77TPI and Viprkilr got it right.
I like the idea of touching the brakes and the other essentials to
a daily driver, money well spent in that area. I love when my car is
clean to the touch, a smooth ride and nice brakes.

Besides the above, and saving $$ 'til you can do a "package" build, consider purchasing and learning to use tuning (chip tuning) equipment. There is probably a good bit of power to be had by giving a stock engine a good tune, and you will need to be able to tune progressively as you continue to build the engine. I am just of recent beginning to learn tuning, and I really, really wish I had started before I ever put a wrench to the car.

Buy the stuff to do your tune yourself and save the rest of the money.
