305 Head Information

So I have been researching various characteristic of 305 heads for a possible purchase and I thought I would share the results. Presented below is some of the pertinent information on the five heads that are available for these engines for a TPI system. The first set of information is on head characteristics such as valve size, runner size, combustion chamber size and other data.

The next set of information is intake and exhaust flow rates at different valve lifts in cfm. I recognize these flow rates are, in some cases, done by different people on probably different machines. However, after scouring the internet this is the best I could find. I have tried to cite sources wherever possible. I hope this is of some use to people considering heads for 305 TPI engines.

I could provide this information in tabular format for easier comparison in Word format.

Re: 305 Head Information

what is the max lift possible with stock springs on the 416 heads? maybe a little better springs than stock, would there be any valve guide interference up to say .48 lift?
thank you!

Re: 305 Head Information

I can’t say for sure about 416 heads with stock springs. I have asked Summit Racing and Comp Cams about using higher ratio rocker arms with my heads and cam which produce .48 Intake and .488 Exhaust lift and both sources indicated than would exceed the maximum lift for my heads. If you can’t find an answer here you may want to approach those two sources for the 14014416 heads.

Since I wrote that post there is another head for our 305 engines, the Vortec head discussed in this thread.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...tec-heads.html

I see there has been flow data on the 416 heads found here.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...6-airflow.html

Good to keep all 305 head information in one place.

i figured as much with stock springs, but i am going to get a set of summit springs that have a max lift of .55", i was just wondering that if like the Vortec heads (which i have a set for the future hehe...) they would hit the guides at .45" or so...
