old gen sbc in tpi(oil sender issue)

Hi all, i am in the process of putting in my 327(and not jury rig the car). Ive got an odd issue, the oil pressure sender unit for my 91 trans am is a large fitting style that goes in the lower driverside of block right above the oil filter. My motor doesnt have this spot drilled out so i have to run it from the hole near the distributor. problem is the car has tpi on it right now and there is no room for a sender to stick striaght up either. Also, the hole is smaller(is 1/8 IIRC and sender is 1/4 size)

is ther some dealer item or such that is a 45* elbow and can adapt from 1/8" to 1/4"? Im trying to figure out how to make this work right.....this is holding me back frm firing the car up(computer needs to see oil pressure) and i dont want aftermarket gauges everywhere in my car

Any parts store or hardware store will have pipe fittings you can use to make it work.

How old is this 327?

A 1968 327 should still have all the same oil passages as anything later

The computer doesn't need to see oil pressure anyway.

computer no...fuel pump relay yes

the sender falls below a certain point it kills the fuel pump and also if there is no oil psi at all the pump wont do anything

You need to pick up a 45* fitting and an adapter from a decent hardware store to make the sender fit correctly. It will look normal when you are done.

Many engine blocks of that vintage are not drilled above the filter.

No, the fuel pump will stay powered as long as the ECM keeps seeing reference pulses from the distributor and the fuel pump relay works. You don't even need the switch.

hmmm i tried firing the car to no avail.....eletric tape a air compressor line to it and run 15lbs of air psi....I get constant fuel pump and not the "priming sequence"

i had a oil sender go bad in friends lt1 and wouldnt start....

im just going off of what ive experienced...not trying to disagree

i would like to stay with stock gauges...not ******* looking autometer or worse sunpro gauges EVERYWHERE. I know 3rd gen gauges arent the best ever produced. But running autmeter or sunpro gauges looks like a hack or racecar.....Not my gig

A constantly-running fuel pump is what you'd expect to see if you put air pressure on the switch. If it didn't start then, you've got other problems.

im puting the car together right now and came to the issue about the sender unit.

ALSO, ive looked at every gol darn hardware store and cant find anything that resembles a 45* elbow(like ones used in gm's. Also, i found that s10 trucks used a similar style sender but has the smaller(correct size fitting)

The pinout isnt the same, but couldnt i transfer a pigtail to my car? I cannot find a woring digram that shows those parts so i can see about conveting it over.

If the hole in the block is 1/8 NPT, go to NAPA and ask for a Weatherhead 3350x2 45 degree elbow.
