maf code 33 and tcc

me again long post sorry
if you do an advanced search with my name you will get some kind of an idea how old and tired I am of this build each day I get to work on it is another day I am pissed off.
I have the good old reoccurring code 33 (86 tpi 165 ecm new factory prom, new connectors for maf and burn off along with correct part number gm relays min air, tps, timing all correct) I have tried once upon a time a maf to no avail
after finally getting the chance to drive hooked to scan tool I discovered I could drive all I wanted until the tcc solenoid was commanded on, as soon as that happens every time no matter what air flow (although it is usually around 49-58) the code 33 sets and we all know what happens then, runs like crap until cleared. anyone interested in this mystery or advise please read my other posts and chime in
thanks again to thridgen.org for being the holy grail for tpi

Have you checked your four pin connector at the transmission? Maybe you could disconnect the connector, drive around, and see what happens.

By the way, are the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter all fairly new? WHat is your fuel pressure, and what kind of injectors and PROM do you have?

I think you're going to need to do some chip reprogramming.

What is under that TPI manifold?

Re: maf code 33 and tcc

well madmax under that TPI manifold is a 30 over 327, flat top pistons, ac delco hard bottom lifters, 202 valve gm cast iron heads, z28 cam and valve springs 1.6:1 roller tip rockers
I am going to do the chip thing after all has been exhausted otherwise, which at this point it pretty much has
the new info of tcc command and the 33 code happening at the same time, thought someone had been there before
thanks all who try

Re: maf code 33 and tcc

Sounds fairly mild, but the setting GM used for triggering a code 33 was a fairly low gm/sec reading (a whole 45 gm/sec) and even stock vehicles sometimes trigger that code for seemingly no other reason.

From your first post, you said you're at 49-58 gm/sec, the TCC is commanded dropping your engine RPM to probably under the 2000 barrier, and all you need otherwise is a low throttle angle (would make sense to be if the ECM is commanding the TCC) and you have a code 33. Most likely, that is what is going on. I'd first get the chip reprogrammed to raise that 45 gm/sec to 60 or 65 and see what happens then. Someone around here may even be willing to take care of that for you, its relatively simple but would require some vehicle downtime for you while the mail does its thing.

Yea, I was about to jump on-board bumping the gm/sec threshold
up a few notches a few years back, I had a code 33 issue that just
wouldn't go away. I had a few people offer their services!
