Engine Repairs

Well guys the other day my headgasket went out, and cyclinder 7 was squirting out water when i had pulled the plugs out to do a leakdown test. I starting tearing down the engine to put new ones in and so far i got the gaskets, in the heads bolted down, which i got worked on just machining them to make them true and flat and had to replace a valve also put new guides in all taht cost me 345$ but besides that i just ordered a set of 24lb fuel injectors since 3 were cracked and one was missin the bottom of it right below the o-ring not sure how that happened. Now my question is are the 24lb injectors fine with a 350 tpi with exhaust and built tranny with 2500 stall and also does anyone know a place near chattanooga TN where i can take my car to get tuned when i get all of this done thanks for the help in advance

Re: Engine Repairs

Hope you did not get antifreeze in the lower end. I found the following on a engine site.
http://remanufactured.com/Engine_Noi...gnosis_101.htm

When you mix the smallest amount of antifreeze and water with motor oil you end up with a low grade acid that attacks the bearings. When you autopsy the engine you will find that the bearings are darkened and with time the bearing surface becomes rough. That's why it developed a bearing knock immediately after the heads were done. The right way is to open the drains or knock the back freeze plugs out. Vee engines have two separate water jackets on each side so don't forget that you have two drains, one each for the right and left.

The easiest way to check if you got antifreeze in the oil is to check your dip stick and under your valve covers for the infamous "chocolate milkshake." If you don't see chocolate colored oil, you didn't get coolant in the oil. I also presume that you would change the oil as matter of common sense when you did the heads. If you had coolant in the oil, you would get water off the bottom of the pan before oil came out. If you didn't get water out when you drained your oil and you didn't have the milkshake, you have no problem.

Re: Engine Repairs

How much did you drive it with the blownhead gasket, and how much antifreeze did the engine have in it? If you flush the oil system out by changing the oil and the filter, run it and drive a bit locally to get the engine up to temperature and then change the oil and filter again. If you didn't drive it much after the head gasket blew, you may be able to clean everything out and not do damage to the engine. If you did do damage, you will know as soon as you start it up.

Re: Engine Repairs

Did you check the #7 cylinder to see if the rod was bent?
With liquid in there it could've damaged the piston/pin/rod

Re: Engine Repairs

To answer your original question, the 24# injectors will work. You may ned to have a chip burned that tells the ecm you are runnning 24# injectors to optimize fuel delivery. If the chip thinks you still have 22# injectors in there, you may run rich.
