? @ using red top fuel injectors????
Hey guys...I know that you can use a red top injector out of like a 5.0 mustang or thunderbird sc in a GM motor...and I know that some of those were 30lb/hr injectors....which is what I want ......but is that at 43.5psi or a different psi rating...I can't seem to find much info on that. I am trying to build another motor...this time on a budget and need 30lb injectors and those mustang guys sell them real cheap...but don't want to put wrong ones in car....let me know

Red top Ford injectors are all 30 lbs/hr. They are the same style injector used in TPI engines (I'm running a set of orange 24s in my car right now). The rating fuel pressure for all injectors is 43.5 PSI, it's an industry standard. Remember that you will need to adjust the fuel tables in the ECM to get the right fueling for the engine.

Re: ? @ using red top fuel injectors????
no mustangs came with 30lb injectors, maybe the newer SVOs do. i have them for my 383 HSR... they are EVI style connectors. the 30lb SVO injectors where standard on the supercharged ford lightning trucks. those ppl usualy upgrade them and sell them for cheap.
sry TKO performance its a fact ford rates there injectors at a lower 37.5 psi not 43.5psi like GM.
the ford injectors are rated at 30lb aka RED TOPS at 37.5 psi.... so when installed on GM vehicles u would set them at 43.5 psi minimum and they are no longer 30lb injectors but are 32lb injectors. the higher rate from 37.5 to 43.5psi increases the injectors rate by 2lb.
as i stated no mustangs had 30lb injectors maybe the SVO stangs but not a 86. they had small injectors i think like 19lb or so like the 305 TPI. remember they were only rated at 225hp and had 302 cubic inches.
you are looking for red top 30lb SVO ford racing injectors. with the EV1 connector. i got mine direct from a ford racing dealer.... they were brand new in package i got them shipped for 200$ for all 8. ive never seen them cheaper.
hope i answered ur questions.

Re: ? @ using red top fuel injectors????
not sure what summits are.... be careful they arent mutlitech style... they are poo. and dont like to work at higher pressures like anything above 43.5psi lol. stick with the red tops are the best, the bosh IIIs are really good too. yellow top accels are poo, but the new black top accels are good from what i hear... they fixed all the problems with the yellow tops

Re: ? @ using red top fuel injectors????
Well this is the second "cheap build" I have seen some red tops off mustangs on ebay that I thought about bidding on ....but wasn't sure if they were 30lbs or not...at least at 43.5psi...I didn't wanna run past that either....so on let's say ebay, the ad will say "ford red top 30lb injectors"....that's the ones I want???

Re: ? @ using red top fuel injectors????
5.0 Mustangs had 19 lb/hr injectors stock, as did all 5.0 Fords with EFI. The only exception to this rule is '94-'95 Cobras which had 24 lb/hrs stock. Plenty of people upgraded their injectors, which is easy on a Ford because all you have to do is swap in the right MAF, or sometimes just the MAF sample tube if you have an aftermarket MAF and the fueling is automatically adjusted. Consequently people could be selling red tops from their 5.0 on eBay, but they are not the stock injectors. The turbo 2.3 used in the SVO, Merkur XR4Ti, and Thunderbird Turbo Coupe may have used 30 lb/hr injectors stock, but they only had four of them, so you'd need to find two such engines in a junkyard and then pray that all of the injectors are good. For $200 or so you can get a new set. That's the best way to go. 30 lb/hr injectors from a Lightening or other modular motor (4.6, 5.4, 6.8, etc.) will not fit in a TPI. These are a different style injector with a different plug and different body dimensions.
BTW, the stock fuel pressure on a 5.0 Ford is 38psi. However, I do not think that Ford rates the injectors at this pressure. From everything I've read injectors are rated at 43.5psi as a baseline for comparing injectors (an industry standard). You can increase or decrease the fuel pressure and change an injector's performance in terms of how much fuel it will flow in an hour (lbs/hr.), but to constantly have to do computations at randomly assigned fuel pressures to determine the true fuel flow potential of an injector would be insane. That's why the SAE uses 43.5psi as a standard pressure for rating an injector's flow. It's the same reason that cam manufacturers give you duration at .050" lift. Otherwise you'd have to compare cams based on advertised duration, which is subjective to the manufacturer's measuring system.

Re: ? @ using red top fuel injectors????
i kno for a fact that ford rates there injectors at a lower 37.5psi or 38psi as u stated. and you can change the fuel injectors output by increasing pressure but the computer will learn this (02 sensor) and will decrease pulse width to compensate for the added fuel... any adjustments to pressure etc will have to be tuned into the ECM.
As i stated the red top 30# SVO injectors need to have the EV1 connector to fit the 3rd gen injector plugs. also stated ur best bet is to buy them new for 200$.
