Re: quick tpi question

Falls on it's face ~4800 rpm.
The "problem" is that the tpi was designed for the 305 and not the 350.

Re: quick tpi question

Giving the 350 more airflow would help but GM didn't design the stock TPI setup to do that.

Then it would breathe enough for a 350.

Re: quick tpi question

Replacing the runners with something by slp or edelbrock will help that problem. The base can be replaced with something better flowing from edelbrock or accel.

Re: quick tpi question

First it would help a lot if you could state your goals for this car. The goals help you decide what type of system to use.

My goals were a bruser from stop light to stop light and at home on a highway cruise without having to stop more often for gas than to take a leak. That's exactly what my TPI does for me. Sometimes I wake up and can't back to sleep so I pull the tops of and go for ride on the freeway, man do I love this car!!

Re: quick tpi question

I was always confused by the "TPI was made for the 305" comment. The Vette has always had the L98, never the Lb9. So why would they design a motor for the Fbody and put it in the vette. Seems to me, it was the other way around. They designed the L98 and gave the Fbody the baby version.

I know the history, but It just seems backwards.

GM hasn't been known for intelligence. Now they're dumping Pontiac. What boneheads.

Re: quick tpi question

theyve screwed up a few times (350/t5 issue etc) but thats why the aftermarket part industry exists, it wouldnt be fun building cars if they did it right the first time lol

moral of the story is they slapped the same system on both motors, and decided it was good enough, the Vette is obviously GM's prize car, always had been so they paid more attention to it and made it work. Just get a new intake and runners, make it flow and call it a day

Re: quick tpi question

The TPI was made for the 305
That is nonsense. In a stock application, how is it that a stock TPI setup isn't good enough to feed an engine through a 1.94 intake valve, regardless it it's a 305 or 350? If you step up to a better set of cylinder heads w/larger valves, and more cubic inch displacement, then yes, the factory TPI setup becomes the restriction. But if your talking factory, the heads are the bottle neck. I chose to run the stock TPI setup for my turbo 355 project, if it were that much of a restriction, I wouldn't have bothered....

Re: quick tpi question

.... just wanted to add, as I'm sure you guys remember this TPI comparison. They purposely used a 383 small block chevy, TFS aluminum heads, and comp XR288HR camshaft, to show the benefits of the "more expensive" setups. Had they used a 350 small block or smaller, with STOCK heads, the other setups wouldn't have made that much of a difference in comparison, nor justify their cost.

thanks for all the in put it.

rgarcia63 First it would help a lot if you could state your goals for this car. The goals help you decide what type of system to use.

i want a camaro that i can drive. but i want performance as well. easyeir to say i dont want a track car. but i want to drive the car i have a nice house in the hamptons and the drive would be great. but i would like it if i dont have to fill up till have get there and relax a bit not 2 times before i get there. but also i am a kid and me and my friends like to go to car shows so it would be a bit of a show car and if needs be show off car if you know what i mean. nothing to crazy but somehting a little special.
