The edelbrock TPI setup
The edelbrock TPI setup
does anybody know how good the edelbrock's version of tpi is? Will you get the sane results using a stock tpi thats been ported? here is the link for those who don't know what i am talking about. also is it worth the money or should i just stick with HSR? since it should be around the same price as HSR's

I'm using a ported Edelbrock baseplate and SLP runners. It's not a bad intake, but you'd probably be much happier staying with the HSR.
Re: The edelbrock TPI setup
well i just know that edelbrock's tpi is a very simple installation. Also, does porting/more flow decrease mpg?

I would say that with more power comes less fuel economy in town. Open road where you can cruise shouldn't be affected much. Most TPI cars, I believe, only got about 20 on the hwy and 14ish in town if that. Anyone have their factory window sticker?

Re: The edelbrock TPI setup
If you're switching to anything, do plenty of research. There are lots of little issues about fitmet, cost and performance that can pop up.
If I had done more reasearch, I would have gone TBI for my 1969 Z28 406CID engine swap instead of TPI - a whole different issue I know. I 'm using Lingenfelter/Accel base and SLP runners.
If I were to do another TPI for performance, I would go HSR or single plane intake EFI. Most aftermarket TPIs bases have the EGR if your state requires it for smog inspection. HSR does not. IIIRC HSR hits a hood reinforcement on the firebird? Are your heads and cam going to use all the HSR can provide?

Re: The edelbrock TPI setup
$745.00 with no throttle body or plenum? ouch.
you can pick up a FIRST TPI intake for $1000.00, and it comes with a TB, plenum, runners, base, and fuel rails. plus it will out flow that base and those runners right out of the box.
the down side with a FIRST, you will need a fuel pressure regulator, rework your fuel lines, and maybe have to mod the throttle cable.

Re: The edelbrock TPI setup
its the big piece the throttle body bolts to on top between the runners.
Re: The edelbrock TPI setup
i think they sell it without the tb and plenum becuase you're supposed to use your stock ones. yea i figured that out myself right after i last responded. thanks though.

You can use the stock plentum with the edelbrock base and runners. The only porting I really had to do to my plentum was open it up for the dual 58mm throttle body.
