Where am I leaking oil from???

The leak is located above the bell housing, and I just redid the manifold gasket only to find that isn't the leak... It is leaking pretty bad too.

It isn't the distributor or the valve covers either... Is there some sort of oil ports on the back of my block above the bell housing?

And yes, I have tried to wipe it all down and see where it is leaking from, but the bell housing is in my way, and I can't see from the top either.

Re: Where am I leaking oil from???

That is a possibility, I mean it is leaking pretty bad though. Like a 5" puddle after parking.

It runs down from where it is leaking, to a big wiring loom, from there, it runs and drips onto the bell housing on the driver side, it then runs down the bell housing to makes a mess under my car and on the ground.

Re: Where am I leaking oil from???

Pictures might help. Your description was kinda confusing for me. But if its leaking a lot out the back of the block, id say rear main seal.
above the bell housing, might be oil pressure sender, maybe it leaks around the oil filter? might be your intake manifold or valve covers or distributer.

Other then that, maybe a hole in yer block? lol Only plugs in the back are for coolant if im not mistaken.

Back of the intake is dry. I just did the gaskets and checked them.

Isn't the rear main seal under the bell housing? I know for a fact that the leak is about the bell housing.

Re: Where am I leaking oil from???

its the oil pressure sender fitting. mine was loose.. leaked like mad. it pools up on the lip the fitting comes out of and runs down the engine/bellhousing onto the ground. take the sender off, you will probably notice the piece it screws into (that screws into the block) is loose. unscrew it, throw some new teflon tape on the threads and screw it back in. you should be good to go.

That actually sounds like my problem... You can't see the pool of oil though can you? Where is it located? Back of the block on the passenger or driver side?

Re: Where am I leaking oil from???

drivers side. your oil sending unit looks like a tin can with a wire plugged into it. follow the line of the head and intake back to the firewall and you will see it. buy another one.. they are cheap as hell and are known to fail. it may be whats leaking.

Re: Where am I leaking oil from???

I know this is extreme old but they search and then ask questions so anyways, I currently have this same suspicious leak from above the bell housing I'm just wondering if you ever got around to fixing this leak and if you solved it??

I believe it ended up being the oil pressure sending unit. I ended up deleting it and using my Mechanical gauge.

i could be wrong here, but i believe the sensor back there is for the oil gauge and for the ecm. for engine protection?

Re: Where am I leaking oil from???

yea i wouldnt delete the oil sending unit.... is easy enough to replace..... but mines was leaking badly... i had to put a right angle adapter on there because it would be hard to reach back there and tighten it up and ended up cracking it and had a bad leak that way..

That is exactly what I had. I think when I rebuilt the engine, I ended up plugging it in the block though. The first time, I just put the plug in the right angle adapter.

Re: Where am I leaking oil from???

Thanks, especially for the right angle adapter tip. I was already making plans of replacing the rear main seal. I glad I came across this thread! Saved me quite some money not having to pay someone replace it. had been delaying this fix for quite some time now. adding $10 quarts of oil periodically gets annoying and expensive..
