car wont start without starting fluid
car wont start without starting fluid
I have a 63 impala with a 80's manifold with a cold start injector but i converted everything to 90-92 MAP. I have the cold start injector plugged in (nothing hooked up to it due to 90-92 wiring not needing it). The car starts up fine with starter fluid and once it warms up you can shut it off and start it back up. Fuel pressure is fine and the car is getting spark. Here is the odd thing. I unplugged the number 3 injector and cranked the car and it started with no issues. I plugged it back in and tried to start and it would not start. I then unplugged the number 5 injector and tried to start the car and it started with no issue. When i plug back in #5 it wont start. Any ideas?

ohm the injectors. sounds like you have shorted injectors when cold that is shtting down the drivers, once warm they keep firing.

Well i figured out what it was my injector plugs were crossed. I had green on 1,3,5,7 and blue on 2,4,6,8 and it should of been reversed. I swapped that this morning and she starts up with no issues now.

ahh, oh well, glad you figured it out, its always a bummer when you make a mistake like that lol.
Re: car wont start without starting fluid
It seems that this never solved my issue. I am starting to work on the car again and it still only wants to start with starter fluid. Once it starts it runs fine but if you turn the car off it does not want to start back up. I checked fuel pressure at the rail and its fine. I am getting spark. Funny thing is it seems if i unplug one injector the car will turn over every time but run like crap. Bad injectors?

i have a similar problem to the person who started this post (car will not start unless using starter fluid)
i brought it to a mechanic and they tried changing the spark plugs, the engine coil, the computer, and the air filters im guessing or some king of filters.
ok this is my problem.
1. engine will not start unless starter fluid is used
2. if starter fluid is used, i have to press on the gas a bit before engine starts up
3. after leaving engine on for 5 minutes, turning it off, waiting 30 sec and then turning it on is no problem (though i still have to apply a bit of gas) but if i leave the car off too long say a few min, it will not start again
i asked a lot of people and they said that it could be the fuel pump or some kind of pressure not getting into the engine or something...
im not sure but wondering if anyone has a more specific answer and a price would be helpful.
thanks a lot.

Re: car wont start without starting fluid
I had a problem where my car would not start when it was 50 degrees or colder outside. I replaced the computer and it fixed the problem. The electrical connections on the circuit boards in the computer can separate when the cold temp causes the metal to contract and it was the problem in my case.
