305 LB9 to THIS 350

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if the engine in the link fits directly into my car?

http://www.jegs.com/i/GM-Performance...ductId=1231165

Here is my plan:
I want to put all the TPI stuff on and want to keep the serpentine belt accessories.
Has anyone of you experence on this engine with TPI an the techniqe from a 89 camaro? Do the bolt holes for the accessory fit?

Thanks, Rob

The problem is that it has Vortec heads. You will need the Scoggin-Dicky/Edelbrock Vortec compatible base. You will get better performance for less money by getting a short block and a set of Trick flow 23 degree or AFR heads.

And what else do I have to do? what else is necessary?
I´m a complete noob in engines, the only thing I can do is to disassemble the accessory and put them back together. I don´t know how to build up an engine from the block.

what he means is get a assembled short block ( a block with the crank pistons and rods and maybe even a cam.) from there you can get a set of heads depending on the year to fit your tpi intake manifold. i think it was 87 when they changed the bolt angle on the heads.

or you can buy that engine, and get a vortech style base for your tpi and it should all bolt up

The Horsepower is always a great question. I don't think you can really tell until it's all put together and dyno tested, but there are also people in these forums that know a lot about this kind of stuff.

Re: 305 LB9 to THIS 350

I think its too difficult for me to build up my own motor without the help of a pro!
Ok I found the Scoggin Dicky Adapter Base Plate, a little expensive, but therefor the engine is cheap.

Oh btw if here is a pro who knows a lot about engines, don´t be shy and let me know your opinion of how to build a budget motor with about 350hp and give me a partlist.
But I want to keep the TPI.

Thanks Rob

This is more or less what I'm trying to do. Though my situation is complicated slightly by wanting to add turbos or a supercharger in the future. Therefore I need to use strong parts in the short block in order to be able to handle the boost later on. I also need a lower compression ratio to facilitate that.

And how are you going to do that, what parts do you take?
