'87 350 TPI cam?
I was under the understanding that the 87 350 TPIs got the "peanut cam", but some recent searches are saying no, some are saying yes.
I'm thinking of swapping out mine, if mine IS the "peanut cam", so I'm looking to find out just how "bad" my 87 cam is, before I look into getting a new cam.
Yes, cam + heads +roller rockers, etc. would be better to do all together. But my budget won't allow that & I like to see the improvements (if any) at each step.
Anybody know the cam specs of each year? I'm thinking a LT1/HOT cam to swap in.

'87 L98 202/206 403 / 415
Even going to a stock LT1 cam is a improvement on account of the increased lift .205/ 207 450/ 460ish
The hot cam (218 / 226 .525 w/ 1.6 rockers ) may be a mismatch without intake mods because it will run revs the TPI intake won't support.Note you need the 1.6 rockers to get that lift , without it is only .492
Something similar to the popular TPIS ZZ9. 212/226 .483/.520 might be a better choice.
And if you want to be really cheap I have had great success with the ZZ4 cam 208/221 474 /510 in L98's Can be found as take out cams from ZZ4 crate engines under $140, I paid $85 for mine

I have an '87 350 with the small cam... its not really that bad in combination with the intake. I use my car for daily driving and with this cam its quite a quick car!
