Even Ford guys with new mustangs love TPI?
This company is making a sort of TPI for new 3 valve mustang engines:

Re: Even Ford guys with new mustangs love TPI?
that design looks 10x better than ours.
would it be blasphemy to swap in a 3v motor as long as it had tpi lol
edit:
look at the runners how they extend into the plenum.
this gives it a large plenum volume while keeping long runners and keeping the unit compact.
not to mention the transition losses from the plenum to runners is greatly reduced by extending the runners into the plenum like that.
the rounded edges help even more with reducing the loss coefficients.
someone put a lot of thought into that intake

we may already have it...but just watch. They will perfect it :P bummer
Re: Even Ford guys with new mustangs love TPI?
Why dose everyone think that a "TPI" intake is determined by just cosmetics? Hell the Buick 3800 was badged as TPI and came with a cast manifold that resembles the LSX manifold more than the F body TPI manifold.

Because GM was refering to the fact that it has idevidual fuel injectors for each intake port that is adjusted (or tuned) by the computer instead of a throttle body injection unit that was the norm at the time. However, it has become the name people call the intake manifold it was originally used on.

TPI stands for tuned port injection.
technically any intake system with a plenum volume and runner volume/length that promotes torque at a certain RPM is tuned.
however, most intakes are specifically DE-Tuned, so that they produce good power at a wide RPM range vs great power at a specific RPM.
the ford intake in question is without a doubt a TUNED intake.
the fact that it has PORT INJECTION comes down to the fuel injector placement.
technically, you could have a throttle body injected manifold with tuned runners and it would be a TUNED TBI intake.
a single plane port injection manifold has no specific tuned rpm range so it can be called a PORT INJECTION manifold, but not tuned.
the acronym "TPI" has gained a sort of "connotation" with the GM TPI, and most people would say that a "TPI" intake has a certain look, and they would be right.
its kinda like how you ask for a "Kleenex" when you sneeze or a "Band-Aid" when you have a scrape... both are brand names, and the tissue you get may not have the features that a "Kleenex" does, but you call a Kleenex regardless.
in theory, if you took the runners and wrapped them around the top of the plenum, then brought them into the opposite head, so that the plenum was below the runners, you could still have a TUNED PORT INJECTION... in fact, the LS intake is just that.

Re: Even Ford guys with new mustangs love TPI?
GM may have called it tuned port injection but it's more apropriately tuned port induction since the tuned induction aspect of the manifold is it's primary feature, nearly any intake can be fitted for port injection and many aftermarket "carb" injectors just need to be machined. But it's the induction tuning that defines the TPI system as we know it. Tuned port injection is just marketing hyperbol.
I would argue that all manifolds are tuned for a certain rpm point and so are all TPI (induction) manifolds. My Mazdas manifold is designed with 4 resonant points and is a sort of super TPI system.

technically, its tuned induction, but the induction part is implied.
if you spell it out completely, it becomes:
Induction-Tuned, Port-Injection.
the "Tuned" is separate from the "Port Injection" part of the TPI
of course the injection is tuned, but its tuned by the computer, not the runners.
no it shouldnt be tuned port induction though, because the air does not enter from the ports...
port induction would be this:

the holley super ram is specifically DE-Tuned so that it can produce power from idle up to 6500 RPM.
the TPI is tuned to produce big torque between idle and 3000 rpm, and the "tuned" effect tapers off after that.
i have never seen your mazda intake, and have no info on it, but if it has multiple designed resonant frequencies, then it is a Tuned intake... weather it is Port injection, i dont know.
do you understand the difference though?
any intake can be Port Injection, the "Tuned" part has nothing to do with where the fuel injectors are
