It's really easy. Remove the "Y" intake tube. Remove the K & N filters. Look down into the "boxes that house the 2 filters. There are 4 total air diverters (2 in each box). remove them. This alone will help the intake breath better, but not much. Once removed, use a Dremel drill and cut out the bottom of the boxes. You can also cut out the bottoms by using a "Saws All." But you will need to do a starter cut to insert the saw blade into the area that is to be cut. Make sure you use a Fine tooth blade. I say agian, Make sure you use a fine tooth blade. If you use a blade that has jagged large teeth, you will damage, crack, or even worst, break the whole filter base. So be carefull.

I went with the fine tooth saws all blade. The difference in performance is that I get a bit more of a jump from a dead stop. This is so because there is far less air intake restriction. The gains can be from 1 hp to 5 hp. It'll vary from car to car by means of altitude, summer vs. winter (cold air is denser and will give more hp) and engine mods.

Do you think a stock 87 350TPI with ceramic headers and 3" exhaust would benefit from this?

I just did mine using an air die grinder and a cut off wheel. It's a mop...it cant hurt. If your worried, do what I did. I went on the forums and asked who had a spear and bought it just in case. Easy to do. 15 mins

Thanks Guy I just finished mine and it came out perfect just came back from a spin and you could deffinately feel a diference in the cars push when in take off..yea i think it would benefit even still with the headers cause all those baffles are doing in reality is lowering your air flow....once again thanks guys!!!!

wanted to say i removed those air dividers and wanna cut out the bottom like you guys have done but i dont have a dremel or any cutting tool, so how much does a dremel cost that will work ok for basic stuff? thanks.

If your just looking to buy one for basic stuff, I won't purchase a Dremel (brand name) as they can get pricey. I have a mastercraft 'dremel' kit and it works great. Cost me under $40 and has a bunch of attachments. Its one of those tools you randomly need and its good to have!

You can also use a drill to put in a hole and then use a hacksaw blade to cut around. More time but also no cost if you have those tools. Prob easier to borrow them as they are more common.

Yup. Drill a hole and use a fine tooth blade along with a Saws All. If you have a friend who does carpentry, he'll have one or knows someone who does.
