Re: 400SBC with a TPI??

possible yes, but you'll run out of breath really early. unless you have a good reason to stick with tpi you should go with a shorter runner length, freer flowing system like a mini ram or stealth ram. if it needs to be emissions legal the mini ram now has an EGR kit that will work in most states or you can find converted lt1 intakes

You also probably need 30# or larger injectors.

Re: 400SBC with a TPI??

theoretically anything is possible... however it might cost you a few more dollars than what you're looking to spend... you will most certainly need porting work on an AFTERMARKET intake, runners and such... along with it you will need a custom tune... yes, even if you go with a MAF setup.. not sure though on the sensors... you may have to get those holes drilled if they''re not already there... you need a knock sensor installed (don't know if a 350 knock sensor will work, most likely though it will)... I've read that externally a 400 is the same as a 350sbc...

Well sort of. 400SB's are always two bolt mains but yeah, externally they are pretty much the same as other Chevy Small Blocks.

"Is it possible to use a TPI system with this engine????"

Sure, but if you want to make some serious horsepower with TPI you need to do what we are doing here in SoCal. We are talking aftermarket parts. How much power you want to make will depend on how much money you want to spend on the porting. We have units flowing well past 300cfm which will support 600hp.

that is a common misconception but EFI has more power to offer and better efficiency. it's just more expensive and a little harder to work with.

Re: One more question!?

i just found a 400, for a great price, and i was wondering if this would be possible... if i have the 85 style(it says 84 in the production code on the plenum) would it bolt right down, or would i have to drill the holes to fit...(i wanna run tpi also)?
might save up for hsr but will they fit....

Re: One more question!?

Yeah I agree! Your gonna need at least 30# injectors. Hawksthirdgen.com has them.

as long as you get the right style heads for the intake you will be fine. in 87 they changed the angle of 4 of the 12 holes that the intake bolts up to. if the intake is an 85 and you get pre 87 style heads you are fine, if you get 87 or newer heads the intake manifold will need to be drilled.

Re: 400SBC with a TPI??

the intake should bolt right up. if you get aftermarket heads unless you specify the 88 up intake it will be the standard design
