It will work, but it will choke the engine. You need to port the plenum and runners, and intake manifold at a minimum. An aftermarket intake like the Stealth Ram or Super Ram would be FAR better.

Re: 383 tpi

You'll benefit a lot more from programming, than from porting to the physicals. You'd be surprised at what the stock parts can make on a 383. Torque happy, yes, but a GREAT street engine!

Re: 383 tpi

So programming the computer would be better than porting? Where can I program it?

Re: 383 tpi

It will certainly need programing, but I'd port all that stuff while I was at it. TPI is pretty restrictive as it is on a 350.

Re: 383 tpi

I've seen a heads & cam only....stock throttle body, stock plenum, stock runners & stock intake (+programming) make 410hp/501ft lbs that made. And the engine looked stock, except for the headers, afterwards

The heads were a big contributing factor....TFS heads.....But that shows that the stock upper parts can support power.

Granted.....Edelbrock runners & an intake bumped the same combo by 25hp (torque only went up by 1 ft lb) , but those parts aren't cheap for only 25hp & I have no idea what kind of/if more programming was done.

Just by extrude porting the plenum & intake, adding big tube runners (probably tuning too) & a 52mm throttle body, it hit 451hp/534ft lbs torque!

Re: 383 tpi

An Accel DFI was used instead of the stock type PROM, so that tuning changes were much easier than burning chip after chip after chip, to see what/if improvement was made (or lost) after the parts changes.

Re: 383 tpi

Heh. I topped a mild 383/700R4 combo in my ol' 1990 Vette 'vert with the factory TPI. It may not have been the fastest car around, but boy was it fun to drive. Lurid power-slides were but a stab of the throttle away at any RPM. Buy tires...you'll need 'em.
