gasoline?

what's the best kind of fuel to use with the tpi 350? 87 or 92? i've been using 92 since i got the car last weekend. it seems to run fine with it. but i'm not sure what it should use.

Re: gasoline?

as far as i know the 350 is a low compression engine therefore lower (reg.) octane gas is (for the lack of a better word) optimum. also if im correct here too higher octane gas burns cooler. so i guess it could help engine life. but i am pretty sure premium is not nessasary and i guess depending how you wanna look at it a waste of money.

mine actually runs better on regular. i have more loping issues on premium grade fuel.

Re: gasoline?

i run 89 and 91 oct in my car. it just seems to run a lil smoother with 91 in the tank. also i found that mine really likes the more expensive gas ie chevron / shell instead cheap gas.

Re: gasoline?

I ran 87 for years in mine until the ecm got tuned. I think brand performance is more in your head than anything.

Re: gasoline?

I run whatever I can get away with.

In this hot weather 87 tents to detonate the **** out of it going uphill in high gear. 89 is fine with conservitive timing and 93 for when I want to haul *** everywhere.

Re: gasoline?

Our TPI engines where made for unleaded only. I read this from a GM source awhile back. If you use 92 and add octane booster additives, you may introduce engine knock or detenation. As we all know, if engine knock occurs, the Knock sensor will pick up the frequency and tell the ECM to retard the spark, thus reducing performance in theory. So trying to enhance may actually produce problems in the long run. So just keep it at regular unleaded. I dont see a problem if you go to the track but personally, I wouldnt run the risk on my D.D.
