AN Fuel Lines?

Okay im working on an L98 swap for my rs, i dont have the fuel line going from the rails to the rubber lines (serpentine bracket thing), would i be able to just use the AN fuel line and route it off to the side? how would i do it? ive never used the stuff before, from what i saw (crappy autozone stuff) is you cut the line, slip the connector on and tighten it...would this work?? Like holding PSI and all?

pretty sure these are what you want
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-220009/

dont know offhand what the hard line end fitting size is, if you search around here, im sure you'll find it posted up somewhere.

line size is -6AN, prety much 3/8. the fittings screw together, they are 2 pc. The autozone crap is just that, crap

Re: AN Fuel Lines?

yeah i was getting some washer fluid and i saw them and the idea for AN lines, ive seen them on before and they look like a good alternative to that bracket stopping my swap lol so these would go right into the rail and then id have to get some female fittings to go onto them right? Sorry to bug you with questions but this is honestly one thing ive never attempted lol

and how would i get it to fit on the rubber extensions from the tank?

Re: AN Fuel Lines?

Yeah I got the idea for an fittings when I was picking up some paint at autozone, these would screw into the rail right? Then get a same size female to attach to a line and down to the rubber ones? And how would I secure a fitting to that rubber line or would I jst find a femal to match it and go to the rail line? How do you secure the fitting to the line? Sorry to ask so many questions but this is one thing I've never fealt with lol

It'll let me learn how AN lines work lol so its a plus

Check to see if fittings on fuel rails are different sizes.
Late TPI rails had 16mm on both instead of 16mm supply / 14mm return found on earlier cars

Google works

http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2150049

You can also use rubber EFI hose with push lock ( socketless ) AN fittings .
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AER-FCV0610/
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RUS-624010/

Both hose and fittings are cheaper and easier to install
Just cut to length and push on; need a knife to get them off
You need -6AN for both supply and return lines

Re: AN Fuel Lines?

and the -6 would be for the rubber extensions too correct? or just the fuel rail fittings?

i went into my local performance shop and they explained the lines to me, pretty much just a comprtession fitting right? i like the idea and itll make things alot easier just gotta check the sizes but i dont have them on hand to play trial and error and a 3 day wait from summit wont be fun lol

Re: AN Fuel Lines?

Otherwise...you need the following

5/16th hard tube adapter to -6an male, you need 2 of these.
3/8 hard tube adapter to -6 male, you need 2 of these.
90* an hose end to -6 female, you need 2 of these.
straight hose end to -6 female, you need 2 of these.
3 ft of -6 an hose in either braided stainless, or nylon wrap.

Why do you need two of each tube adapter ?
You are only making one connection to each hard line on the frame end

Not familiar with F Body lines.
What does the F Body have for a connection where the flex lines to engine join the chassis hard lines ?
The Vettes have a coupling so you can just use the correct adapter to mate AN lines instead of having to put a hard tube adapter on the line itself

with the parts i listed, he wont need those.

he just needs to cut those off, and use the tubing adapters.

Rather ******* way of doing it when there is a "off the solution" available that leaves rails stock should he wish to sell intake in future

when i had read it earlier, i took it as his lines had already been cut, and he had nothing to work with, since he was mentioning hard tube adapters ...

i always advise against cutting **** up for no reason, but i thought his car already had it done.

i know all about the off the shelf stuff, ive spent over 300 in fittings and lines for my car!

Those hard line adapters use a soft brass ferrule in an aluminum housing to bite on a steel line. Any imperfections or corrosion of the steel line will compromise the seal. Those things are rated above stock fuel pressures but this is in an ideal world. I would never use those hard line adapters for fuel pressure above what a TBI system would see. They're fine for that and tranny coolers.

The only proper way to do it like that is to use a quality adapter like made by swagelok....don't get sticker shock though

Re: AN Fuel Lines?

wow i havent checked this thread in a while! jeez, ok i havent actually cut the lines im still working on building this thing and i figured id ditch the factory lines and put the an lines in, Ill need to get the fittings for the rail and go backwards, i was wondering if there is a connector to go from the rubber line that sits on the frame, im gonna take a pic so you guys can see what im talking about, if not i wouldnt mind cutting off those metal fittings and go with another set of compression fittings if its gonna cause me a headache

posting pics later if i can get a good picture

Re: AN Fuel Lines?

okay heres the idea, please bear with the TBI motor lol what i was thinking was running the AN lines off the fuel rail using those adapters from summit, then running the lines (blue) off the side of the motor and attaching it to the rubber lines (red box) does this sound posible? is the bracket necessary or can i just omit it and go with the way described above?
