bosch 3 injectors . need help.

My friend just bought the bosch 3 injectors from southwest fuel injectors. after the installation the car sounded worst and felt very bad. the car smells like a gas station , misfires, and stalls alot. it stalls when you try to reverse the car. the engine shakes as we increase speed too. can someone help please. the car is 1990t/a 350. does anyone have pics of the injectors in the engine installed already.

Re: bosch 3 injectors . need help.

Never heard of Southwest Fuel Injectors, and I googled them and nothing even came up. Is this some EBAY company or something like that? If it wasn't from a reputable re-builder, they could be junk. I'll send you a set and you replace them. If it doesn't work, I'll take them back.

If you want me to flow them send them in I'll tell you if they work.

I'd guess if it smells like gas and runs like ****, they are leaking.

Take Injectors Plus up on their offer regardless IMO.

Offer still stands, regardless. In fact, I will advance you the injectors and you can pay me later if they work. If not, send them back.

Hello pestrada38!!

Give southbay fuel injection a call, and explain the problem to them, since that is where you got the injectors from, give them the chance to help you out, it's the least that you can do!!

I believe that they have a 3 year warranty, so, you have nothing to lose!!

P.S. Did you disassemble the fuel rail, and maybe got an o-ring twisted/split/pinched in the process?

or as per southbay's site.

"INSTALL INJECTORS INTO INTAKE MANIFOLD FIRST, THEN THE FUEL RAIL FOR PROPER INSTALLATION & FITMENT !!!!!!"

Re: bosch 3 injectors . need help.

are the old injectors supose to come out from the manifold with the orings in tack on the injector. i think maybe the old orings are stuck in the manifold thus causing the leak.

Yep, see if they can provide you some tech support and give them the chance to solve the problem.

I had people here all day and I'm cleaning up. I know it's Thanksgiving, but if you want PM me and I'll send you my home number. It will get me out of cleaning up...

I don't think that's the issue. He would see leaking all over the place if he installed them wrong, as soon as the fuel pump is primed.

Hello InjectorsPlus!!!

The OP did say "are the old injectors supose to come out from the manifold with the orings in tack on the injector. i think maybe the old orings are stuck in the manifold thus causing the leak."

To me, this means he has a leak, he said so himself, and he smells gas, and possibly a vacuum leak as well, causing his car to run like crap!!

Hello pestrada38!!

If I were you, I'd re-do the job, and make sure that your o-rings are sealing correctly, and only use new o-rings!! Depending on how far you took apart the plenum, and runners, check these parts for vacuum leaks also!! If you got the injectors with the adapters, they only require one o-ring on each end!! Make sure when you removed the old injectors that you got all the old o-rings out of the manifold, and the fuel rail!!

Lastly, give southbay a call!!

Injectors don't leak from the bottom, they leak from the top if an o-ring is misplaced. I saw that here recently, don't remember exactly where, but who ever said that is clueless. It's just not right.

Think about it, the fuel pressure is coming from the top, not the bottom, the only time there is fuel in the bottom is when the pintle moves. Only a defective injector can leak from the bottom. I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS THE CASE, but in terms of troubleshooting, he needs to understand what he's looking for and not look for things that don't happen.

Think of it as a hose bib. The pintle being the valve. The only way it drips is if the valve is defective. A good valve can not leak so if there is water puddling it is leaking before the valve. Same thing.

Let's give SB a chance. I get on the phone with customers to work through problems like this all the time, I'm sure she'll do the same. It's time consuming, could take an hour or more, but helps customers. She'll help him figure it out, vacuum leak, injectors, whatever I'm sure the problem will be solved. That's what good vendors do. I find conversations solve problems better than postings, call them. Good luck Pastrada!

Re: bosch 3 injectors . need help.

Ok everyone, just got online...was away for the holiday....i see that there is an issue here. First of all, thanks 87iroc-dan61,,, second of all if anyone ever experiences a problem with our injectors we are the ones that need to be contacted---it is our product and it is our responsibilty to take care of any issues that may arise.
Injectors plus, i was the one who made the comment about a leaking injector. I said that if an injector leaks from the rail, it is due to improper installation or an oring issue. If the fuel is leaking from the rail side it is not an indication of a faulty injector,,,if the injector itself is going to leak, then it will leak from the bottom.
Providing good customer service does not end after the sale,,,we are here to help for as long as you need us.
pestrada38,,whenever you remove injectors from a fuel rail and intake, you always need to make sure that both upper and lower orings come out with them and that nothing is left behind.
If you are having a problem please give us a call.
Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

I don't think it was you, because we're saying the same thing. They leak from the top, or the rail, not the bottom/manifold. We agree here. And yes, is not an indication of a faulty injector. It was something else I recently read here.

When installing the injectors I suggest you put a little petroleum jelly on the orings, it seems to help things go together and seal up nice. For cleaning the fuel rail ports I would suggest carb cleaner, a clean rag, and some patience.. seemed to work for me.
