350 tpi turning off while driving

So recently my car has been turning off while driving, it turns off randomly. When it is ideling its nice and smooth, then when i start driving it everything feels normal and all the sudden the car turns off then i try to restart it but it wont start at all, like its not getting gas,and it smells like fuel, i keep cranking it for a while then it slowly starts up and its back to normal.im also hearing the fuel pump working. what could this be? clogged fuel filter? some relay?

Check fuel rail pressure. Then OHM out the injectors when hot. Just had a customer with similar problem and it was the injectors.

Sounds like it is ignition related to me. I would lean toward the ignition module or the pickup coil in the distributor. The pickup coil likes to just literally fall apart and ign. modules are very common to produce intermittent stalling and starting problems. When it will not restart check for spark at the plug wires. Do you know how to do that?

Car's will not start for one of two reasons. No spark or no fuel. Do a spark test and fuel pressure test when the problem occur's and it should be easy to find.

Don't know if you ever solved this or not, But sounds like problem I was having last year.. I could drive some where, but no restart when leaving after a short time (like grocery shopping)

I was heat soaking the Ingition modules and finally resolved to moving it out of the distributor, from under the cowl, away from tube headers below it, all heat sources.
I moved it to the inner fender well, added a cooling fan from a computer and haven't had any issues since.
Here's the write up on it from last year.
