Miss when driving...

I have a 92' formula with L98 that just started to miss when I go down the road. At idle its smooth as can be but when I accelerate or any load at all on it say a small hill or something it misses like crazy and never the same (ie not the same cyl) it will smooth somewhat if I "floor" it but still same problem..

I have run a system cleaner through and still has it...

Any other ideas form others with the same motor...

Thanks
Danny

Re: Miss when driving...

L98's can sound fine at idle and only be hitting on 6 cylinders. Sound smooth as silk until you give it some gas. Start with the simple stuff. Check your plugs and regap if necessary. Check your wires, make sure they are tight and the contacts aren't corroded. Check them at the plug AND at the distributor. I had a similar problem. All of the plug ends looked fine. Pulled one off the distrubutor and rust poured out of it. Just don't pull them all off at the same time unless you know how they go back on.

Re: Miss when driving...

Did that and still has it though the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor are all 3 months old. has anyone else had this happen to them? what was it in the end?... It will dig up to 5500 rpm down the road just with a miss... Could a bad battery cause it? I know on a dyno an undercharged/bad battery will cause our racing engines to loose 50+ HP!!! Never seen a miss though... Never dealt with this type of ignition too lol...

Anything else I can try please let me know

Thanks,
Danny

Re: Miss when driving...

Eliminate one thing at a time.I suspect a wire.Grab a spray bottle of water and (in the dark is best)Soak the wires with the water.Be sure to only get the wires and not a different sensor and look for the light show might even have to have someone rev it or put it under a load.Next i would look for track marks in the distributor from arching.Next you can check for proper injector pulse with a voltmeter or noid light set.it could even be a fouling plug.next i would soak the coil pack and look for leakage and then get the specs for it and check its ohms. Please let us know how it goes.

Re: Miss when driving...

so far nothing... pulled the cap rotor wires plugs nothing at all.... put it under a load same thing it just burned tired if pushed too much on gas...such a pain... however i did notice that it only does it now when im in either 3rd or OD i can run in 2nd and its smooth as can be as well... second it hits 3rd or OD bam there it is it also pulls like a SOB still until it gets into those gears... im wondering if it has somethign to do with fuel pressure at low rpm or maybe the MAP sensor at low rpm but why it would do it only while driving still messes with me.. how about O2 sensor?

Well, MAP sensor works fine, TPS is fine and still can not find the problem fuel pressure/reg is fine and there still is a miss it seems to be getting worse... any ideas we may have missed?

Re: Miss when driving...

Mine did same thing and I fought it for a year, I replaced the distributer with a new one from MSD and new 8.8 MSD wires and the car runs like new. Now I replaced my pickup coil, , cap, rotor, plugs and spark plug wires TWICE in 2 months and never fixed it, runs like new now. Thats what fixed my problem anyway

Humm, ya i was messing with the wires the other night and when i took one off while running it would start ticking inside the cap was wierd never heard that before when you take off a wire... now it seems to be getting worse too i feel it more and more and now you can put it in gear hold the brake and get on the gas and it does it...
