tbi to maf tpi 350 w/lt1 cam....need some info

FPosted over in engine swap with little luck, I've got an 89 tbi I'm converting to a MAF setup on a 350, I've got a painless harness for the tuned port and the block has an lt1 cam, I've got a few questions I just need answered....

1. How does the painless harness work? Do I just clip my bulkhead, solder and heatshrink the wires? The harness is for MAF tpi, I have the ecm for it (7165 I believe) do I just color match and plug in my ecm? Or am I gonna have to re pin the connector?

2. With the cam I've heard mixed things, mainly on the valve springs, I've been told I need to use the lt1 springs, and I've also been told that the lt1 cams profile isn't that much more aggressive than the tpi stock cam so I could just use the springs currently on the heads... which is it?

Info would be GREATLY appreciated, the thread in engine swap was pretty much pointless, the only answer I got said to re pin my current harness and toss my new painless one....not my objective lol??

TIA

I don't know about 1), but about 2):

From tbichips.com:
Specs on Stock TBI cam is .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 179/194; and maximum lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is .350/.384. Valve springs are also VERY important due to the stock ones having a redline of 4500 rpm.
I would definitely replace the springs. Unless you plan on driving like granny.

I've done my share of rebuilds and swaps but we never used a painless harness, and I'm curious to know if its a matter of clip, solder, go, or if I need to repin the bulkhead the map to maf raises the biggest question for me because say for instance (just an example) wire 1 goes to pin A for sd, but for maf pin A is for something else, make sense? In text it sounds dumb but I wanna be sure

Re: tbi to maf tpi 350 w/lt1 cam....need some info

i had to re route only one wire under the dash and repin a few in the c100. took me maybe 30 mins to repin them and that's because i couldn't get the clip out. i found that most of my c207 were the same mostly because i never had the underhood light that is used on some models. in its place is a ground. that would just be a dead short. now is this maf 89 as well? if so you already have the vats wiring in place.

Re: tbi to maf tpi 350 w/lt1 cam....need some info

No my tbi is speed density right now, I'm a bit confused by that post, its late so this may be a dumb question but what is c100 and c207? My vats has been bypassed already I got rid of that crap a while ago, as for the hood light I don't think I had one, I've got a crossfire injection hood now so if I did I wouldn't remember, would I be fine with it?

And how am I gonna know what to re pin and where??? Unless I can get a printout of both pin assignments, one for my 89 tbi and one for an 87ish tpi with maf

Re: tbi to maf tpi 350 w/lt1 cam....need some info

c100 is the harness on the drivers side and c207 is the harness that connects to the computer. i printed all my stuff so lets see if i can find it all. the speed density stuff isnt labeled well but the wires are actually all just about in the same place. i will copy and paste if i can everything i used to do the swap.

iif you cant wait till tonight then go to austin 3rd gen and get the info off of the ltx/lsx swaps. pocket has posted everything ive used to do the swap. i also got mixed up thikning the maf was 89. still not that hard. prolly easier to do. most of the wires are in the right places in the c207 EXCEPT the fan wire has to be swapped from the c100 to pin d on the c207. i just ran a wire from the fuse to the c207 and all is well.
