do these things actually work/ do anything?

i was thinking about unhooking the cooling line to my throttle body to keep it cooler and i read that it might do something for power... has anyone done this and noticed a difference? or better yet got a dyno number from it? also the air foil for the throttle body. does that thing do anything at all? doesnt it block an air passage? very curious lol

edit: i read a guy in a technical article hooked up a breather under the car to put air through it to cool it.... would it be possible to do the same thing by hooking the spog pump up to it? and you could add in a box to add ice and cool down the smog pump forced air pumped through the throttle body. just an idea after hearing that.

Both work, will you gain a significant bit of power? Not really.

The TB Coolant bypass mod will lower the intake charge temps slightly. As its still a metal intake eventually it'll heat soak and it won't matter as much. It does help though so if you can get away with it, I'd do it.

The Coolant flow exists to keep the TB blades from icing up at cruise in colder moister weather. I've never experienced an issue with it, even in the winter months here in Chicago IL. But it can happen, it is there for a reason. Its an easy mod to do, so you could do it for summer, and then undo it for winter if you drive it in the cold.

The TB Airfoil smooths intake flow out a bit. but I don't expect to see a big gain. I think its like 5-10hp at the flywheel at most. it doesn't block any important bits in the TB.

Nothing. It has a port for the IAC. See the indent at the bottom in this picture? Thats for the IAC. The blade itself doesn't block anything.

I have something similar on my ported Throttle body.

Re: do these things actually work/ do anything?

I didn't do it. The guy who's porting my LT1 heads offered to bore it out to 52mm (actually its about 51.7mm, but its close enough) as well as port match my intake.

I didn't actually do any work.

Hows it working? I'll never know. The car is getting ported TB/Intake/Heads, and Cammed at the same time. The individual gains from this will never be known.

Here's a pic of the TB in the porting process. Left is unported, right is semi ported.

There are plenty more links in this link.

The throttle body is heated to help prevent carbon build up in the TB as well. That's why I've left mine alone.
