Retrofit TPI issue
Retrofit TPI issue
Team. I have sold the third gen but the heard lives on in my '73 pickup. It is a MAF motor from an '88 IROC and it is a 350. I have it all wired in and it cranks and doesn;t start. I have flashes with my noid light and spark through my inductive checker. I am at a loss and have no idea what to do next. Distributor is new changed the ECU. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Retrofit TPI issue
If the engine sat for a while the injectors might have gummed up or stuck. You can tap on the housing with an screw driver handle and might get them to free up. I used an un-lit propane torch into the PCV hose to fuel the engine while doing it once on a LT1 that had sat in the boneyard for a while.
Re: Retrofit TPI issue
I finally got a few minutes to work on the truck and I have a solid 45 psi fuel pressure priming and while cranking. Still not running. I checked cranking compression on cylinder 1 and got 150 PSI then it got dark and had to stop. Just giving an update.
Re: Retrofit TPI issue
Okay so I messed around with the timing some more and tested the coil again and got some real starting fluid. I managed to get the engine to start and idle a little with the starting fluid but it didn't last real long. I got it running enough to get the timing in to a reasonable spot about 4 BTDC. Not a super accurate time because of the struggle to keep it going but it is closeish. The injectors are all around 16.5 ohms. I have 45 psi at the rail test port but the fact it runs on the ether makes me suspect fuel. What are the odds 8 injectors are so bad the vehicle won't even run poorly?? Any help appreciated.

Re: Retrofit TPI issue
Is it possible a wire is broke in the harness going to the injectors? Each side of the engine's injectors all come together in the harness so there are only two wires per side, if one of those wires is bad you'd only be getting fuel to half of the engine.
You'd have to unplug the ECU, find out what pin the injectors are on and check it with a continuity tester..

I appreciate the advise. I did verify my wiring in this beast and that was all good up to the computer and the computer grounds were good as well. I also verified with a noid light flash on both banks.
The fuel pressure is good and the injectors are getting commanded on so I suspect clogged injectors as this engine has been sitting a while. I have some 22lb Bosch IIIs on the way.
