1988 IROC dies everytime I put the car in D or Reverse

Im not sure where to post this at. I posted in Engine Forum & then saw there is a TPI Forum.

Im new to the board. But a lover of the 3rd gens. I have been restoring my 1988 IROC for the past 5 years & bringing it back to life. Bought the car for a $1000 as a roller with the motor & trans out of it & the Engine harness ripped out.

Now after about $4000 in labor & parts the car runs. But doesnt run great! The motor was completely rebuilt & ordered new Engine Harness from Painless & had it installed by Painless Wiring in Fort Worth along with having the injectors flowed & cleaned & also with new fuel pump & flushed the stock gas tank out of all the junk in it from sitting for almost 6 years now

Really want to get this beauty back on the road & use it as a daily driver. Any tips would be appreciated. I am located in Dallas if anyone knows a TPI guru in these parts

on my 90 rs with 305 tbi it was doing that for a while, checked the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, wires. then took off my distributor cap, and the inside of my cap was all melted, changed the cap, then it ran fine. maybe thats your problem?

I will give it a look see, This motor was just put in. But all the parts on it have been sitting for 5 plus years IE: like the runners & intake & Dist itself. I think the cap is new though.

Evilmoked94 what can I do to keep the motor idle higher when I put the car in gear

Ju got off the phone with Painless and the Guy who did the wiring and it has all new rotor and cap with wires and sensors! He suggested bring the idle up and run some high octane through it and said the these injectors have a tendency to lock up.

when injectors are flowed or new they are very prone to seizing up just run some injector cleaner and check you idle maybe bump it up some

agree or recheck that he set your TPS correctly.

IAC is idle air control
and TPS is throttle positioning sensor

This all makes sense & same advice he gave me. Just wanted to confirm it & get any other ideas of where I should check. He said it has a new pick up coil also too!

It barely will idle at all. Car feels solid under load. But I think you guys are right. I need to bring the idle up
