gasoline question
gasoline question
I recently starting running 92 octane fuel in my 91 350 TPI (all stock) and it seems to run smoother and has more pull in the higher rpms (please dont tell me thats impossible because i definately feel a difference) I know somewhat about gasoline and the octane ratings and E10 and detergents and additives in the gas but my question is, since I now run 92 octane, should I advance my timing by a couple of degrees to get a more complete burn since this octane burns slightly slower?
Re: gasoline question
true, but im in the same boat as alot of people here, where their car becomes really sluggish and/or stalls due to excessive heat somewhere in the fuel system (i dont know, no one can figure it out) and i cant seem to fix that problem no matter what i do, or no matter what anyone does, i believe there are 2 ongoing threads right now about this problem, and running 92 octane seems to help, so should i advance my timing or no?

Re: gasoline question
After reading this post, I had to satisfy my curiousity. Broone115 and DJP87Z28 are both correct.
Exact quote from the first paragraph of 'Fuel Requirements' from my 1987 owner's manual:
"Your engine is designed to operate on premium grade unleaded fuel. However, with the electronic spark control system, you may use regular unleaded fuel at slightly reduced acceleration performance".

Re: gasoline question
If it runs better now, I would leave it. New plugs and dist cap and rotor for a clean burn is always nice too. Just remember that most aftermarket chips require a stock timing as they bump the timing at higher RPM"s.
