H/C/I for a 355ci??

HI! I have a 1987 IROC with a 355ci TPI. The block is a 79, Has a baby comp cam in it right now, Stock intake with mild porting and stock heads with mild porting. Hedman headers, 2 1/2 madrel bent Y into a 3 inch flowmaster exhaust. Any way I was thinking of 180cc AFR heads, LT4 Hot Cam and a Holley Stealth intake w/ 58mm TB and 24lb injectors. Would this be a good combo? I have a goal of 400 rwhp Also on the air intake is there anyone who makes a bigger MAF? Id like to rig up some sort of Cold air system. Thanks!!

That would be a fun street setup, but you wouldn't hit 400rwhp with that. Also since your block is a 79 then it cant take the LT4 hot cam because it is a hydraulic roller cam. Though you can get a retro fit cam kit.

I have a 355 Miniram setup with AFR 195 Eliminators, Comp Cams 280 XFI, SLP 1 5/8 shorties, 58mm throttle body, 30lb injectors, and I hit 397 rwhp through an automatic. I would have hit 400 rwhp on my last pull but my transmission kicked down and screwed up the results.

I would also recommend converting to speed density to eliminate the MAF entirely.

Ok! Yeah I was doing some thinking and realized the Hot cam would not work on an older block.. What cam would you suggest? Something with a nice lump but still computer friendly and would work well with the heads and intake set up. If I could hit somewhere in the upper 300's to the ground I would be happy!

I cant name a particular cam for you but I would look for something being in the 220's in duration, 112 lsa, and being in the high 400's or in the 500's for lift.

I'm sure someone that knows more about cam selection will chime in.

Not sure on your price range but i know AFR's are not cheap. Personally i am partial to Trick Flow's combo's. Maybe try one of these.

My price range is pretty good. I know AFR's are like 1500 bucks.. Which is quite alot haha. How are trick flows in comparison? OR Edelbrock? I heard edelbrock are kinda garb tho.

I saved my money and got the AFR's. They are some of the best heads you can get right out of the box. Granted trickflows are not bad heads at all but I would rather (and I did) save the extra money and buy the AFR's.

Those package deals on the link from the previous post doesnt seem like a bad option though...
