odd revving / idle problem ..any help appreciated
350 tpi motor in my 1988 iroc that has an odd problem that i can't seem to figure out. after the motor is warmed up i'll come to a stop light, shift into nuetral and it will idle rather high, anywhere from 1500-3500. but if i just tap the gas it will fix itself and idle at about 800 or so. it almost feels as if the throttle cable is 'sticking' but after checking the cable out i can tell it's not sticking. could it be something vacuum related? any help is appreciated

it would seem that someone out there in the third gen world would have figured this one out by now,Must be one of thoughs,it could be 20 different things type issues. Can the ECM send info to the TB to cause the throttle cable linkage to open slightly causing this?

I talked to my son in law and read up in the repair manuel.2 thing manuel talks like the cable needs lubing in a couple of spots, also son in law said check in the TB where the flap moves and make sure theres not some kind of wear that could be interfearing with the operation.

Re: odd revving / idle problem ..any help appreciated
I have seen the cruise control cable be just close enough that it holds the throttle open, and when you "kick it down" the cruise cable is slammed far enough away to allow the throttle blades to shut. That cable is adjustable at the cruise unit. I've also had a TBI unit with a weak return spring and fixed it the lazy way by adding a spring like it was an old carb. I don't know if it helps but those are problems I've seen.
