ticking from under the intake......

OK, I just finished a tear down of the intake and fuel system. Newfuel regulator, new Bosch III injects from South Bay, new intake gaskets, new cap, rotor, wires....

Fired the car up and it runs so nice and smooth, deeper tone. But i hear clicking (ticking) noise that seams to be coming from under the intake plenum. It directly matches the speed of the engine. But i can't feel the ticks in anything I touch. Not in the fuel rail, intake, etc.... It sounds like it is near the EGR. Used a long screwdriver to listen but again i couldn't isolate it.

Is there anything in the area that might make this noise normally? I know the carb solenoid in my 85 Z make a loud clicking noise. You can't hear this noise in the car or with the hood down. But it is very pronounced with the hood up. I don't remember hearing this before that is why I am looking at the items I have replaced. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

When I pull the valve covers for a repaint, i think i will check the preload on the lifters. And now that the car has been started and warmed up, I will check all the bolts for tightness.

(Car does sound so much better with the new injectors, smoother and deeper)

If anyone else has had a ticking, clicking noise in the area under the intake plenum... let me know what it was so I can check...Thanks!

The Bosch iii's tick louder than the Multecs - I think that's all it is. I also have the same injectors and immediately noticed, but I am happy about the benefit of the swap.

Re: ticking from under the intake......

well that would be cool if thats what it is. Make sense since the only place I could sense a vibe that match the ticking was in the hose to my fuel gage that was hooked into the schrader valve on the fuel rail.....

Do love the new injectors tho!

I went from a stock 305/43 psi/19lb Accels to a modded 350/50 psi/27lb Bosch III's. In your case, 43 psi would be appropriate.

Re: ticking from under the intake......

thanks to everyone for adding the $.02. I'll sleep a little easier.

I put in Bosch IIIs, the stock replacement 19 lb units. I am running pressure a little higher. With the reference line disconnected, the pressure is about 47 psig. About 37 psig with the reference line connected. Not sure if that adds to it.
