OK SO I HAVE A 1987 CAMARO IROC Z28 BUT I HAVE A ENGINE LIGHT PROMBLEM WEN MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON . IT MAKES THE CAR TONE SOUND DEEPER ND IT FEELS LIK MY CAR RUNS A LIL SLUGISH BUT WEN THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES OFF THE CAR HAS MORE POWER BUT WEN I DECELERATE THE CAR MISFIRES SOMETIMES.AND ALSO THE CAR IDLE GOES UP WEN I PUT IT IN PARK SUMTYMES AND ALSO WEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AFTER THE IDLE PROBLEM AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON IT SLOWLEY DIES BUT WEN I REV IT UP IT GOES BACK TO NORMAL.ANY SUGGESTIONS????

IT IS A 5.7 TPI ENGINE
THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES OF ND ON WEN I START IT DIFFRENT TIMES O YEAH WEN I TRY TO PULL THE CODES NOTHING POPS UP I JUST PUT A BRAND NEW ECM AND MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR AND TPS RECENTLY HELP!!!

 

Did you put the correct Memcal in the new ECM?

 

Take off the caps. I dont help members who are yelling. The all caps title was enough to get my attention. I do know what to do in your case and I have a method to troubleshoot your issue.

Okay. Thats better. Turn on the IROC and pop the hood. Then tap on the MAF sensor with a screwdriver. If the idle bouces, then the MAF Sensor may be bad. Which pins are you jumping? You need to jump the upper right terminals (A&B)to get the camaro display the codes. Does the Camaro have a speedometer cable installed. Ill get at you tomorrow. Im falling asleep as we speek.

 

no I haven't installed a speed o meter yet but Ive tried to display codes using a and b but still no codes pop up

 

There's your problem. If there is no speedometer cable, the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is no sending a speed reference signal to the ECM. So in other words, the computer doesn't know it's even moving. So with that said, the computer is not gIving correct signals to other sensors which is causing the trouble noted. There may be other issues as well, but you need that cable for sure.

 

I have a similar problem... ill be trying this troubleshooting to see if it works, for the Speedo cable can it cause my engine to idle bad?
