Poor running engine
I have a 88 trans am gta with 305 tpi and i just recently had a valve job done on the engine, after we rebuilt the engine there has been a consistant slight miss at idle up to around 2000 rpm's after that it is ok, it will also bog when revved up at idle and when you step on it after going at a consistand speed, it also seems to bog down more with i have it in first or second but not drive or overdrive.
When we rebuilt the engine we put in new plugs and wires, i ask just put a new msd distributor on yesterday and that did not help it either, can anyone give me some suggestions on what i should do?

Re: Poor running engine
I would start with the easy things. Make sure the spark plugs have the correct gap, make sure you plugged in the new wires in the correct firing order. Also I would look to make sure that when you routed the wires that some weren't to close to the engine and got burned. My wires were routed poorly from the previous owner and three of the wires got burnt and it did pretty much like your describing.

Re: Poor running engine
We have checked the fireing order many times we gapped them when we put them in and we also checked to make sure the wires were not close to the engine by using zip ties to hold them away from the engine, we have also checked for spark on each of the wires

Re: Poor running engine
timing,
plug wires wrong,
cap and rotor,
valves need adjusting,
vacuum leak,
Check TPS to see if it is good and adjusted correctly (did you get it wet?).
Fuel pressure.
O2 Sensor
or maybe timing chain put on one tooth off (prolly not but what the heck, check it anyway see if valves are opening at the right time).
just trying to give you ideas. A month ago I put plug wires on and had a pretty good miss. double checked and they were right - but they were not. 6 and 8 were hard to see. It was an optical illusion. Looked correct til I crawled under the car and looked up.
Do you have a basically stock engine with all emissions parts still on it? factory ecm?

Re: Poor running engine
We removed the air pump for the smog stuff, other then that there's headers maybe a cam and a few other small things that the previous owner had put in
