Emergency! Fuel pump help in Palmdale!!
I am stuck here in a hotel in Palmdale. I have no start- engine turns but will not fire- and I have no priming sound from the fuel pump. Anyone in the area that someone can recommend to help me and maybe replace te pump? I don't want to have to pay for a 100 mile tow home and THEN pay to have the pump replaced!! It is a 1991 Z28...

Check the basics first, fuse. if that is good check your fuel pump relay, swap it with another relay to see if that kicks it on. I believe your relay is on the firewall right behind your brake booster. It should be the one with a grey wire running to it. Swap it out for a new one or trade it with the other relay next to it. cross your fingers !

If it is indeed the fuel pump then you may be in trouble because a fuel pump swap being accomplished in a hotel parking lot is going to be a worry because of time, tools and work area.
To do it properly would require a jack, dropping the axle and perhaps the exhaust to drop the gas tank straps to retrieve the pump from the top. The pump can also be retrieved by cutting a hole in your sheetmetal under the carpet behind the rear seats but once again that would require noise and power tools to carefully cut.

i think i heard on here once the last few years of
thirdgens are known to sometimes develop a bad
connection where the wires go into the fuel sender-
could give those wires a tug and see what happens...
have you tried to shoot a little gas into the throttle
body to see if car tries to run on the gas?

Sorry guys- didn't give you all the info: I don't really need it fixed in the parking lot necessarily- I was wondering if anyone in the area knew of a good shop or had one that could help. ALSO, the previous owner dig cut a hole for the fuel pump, PLUS cut along the hump to let them get the hard fuel lines up I guess, but I have never changed a fuel pump before..

I have had R&E Racing do a fuel pump swap on my car. I would recommend them. They are in Lancaster; it would be about a 10 mile tow.

Re: Emergency! Fuel pump help in Palmdale!!
Many thanks to all of you who responded...
Firstly, thanks to Burnout91: you sir, ROCK! The referral was PERFECT.
Secondly, many, many thanks to Dave and Frank at R&E Racing in Lancaster. They had a lot of work in the shop, but they made sure I was in and out in less than a day. Firstly, Dave quoted me $475, tax included, to replace the fuel pump. This is well below the cheap end of the price range I have seen for these in the past...
Then, when they started work, they found the access panel- yes, the infamous 'access panel'- from a previous owner. I was going to wait to weld it all up until I could set aside time to drop the rear and the tank and do it properly. Don't we all have 'perfect plans' like that?
Anyway, I asked Frank to see if they could disconnect the lines underneath the tank and pull the pump out the top. Now, most shops would say 'no way', their labor rate is their labor rate. Frank and Dave were fine with it!
Time to pull the pump, including jacking the car: 27 minutes. Time to swap pumps: about 10. Time to reinstall and close it up: about 40. The whole job took less than an hour and a half and cost me about $250!
All in all, if you are in the area and need some work done, stop in- you won't be dissappointed. And I think I am going to clean up that access panel and make it permanent, regardless of what the purists say...
