What IAC to use????

I have one for you guys… I have a TPI unit from an 87 Camaro 350. I did plug off the 9th injector and all to convert the unit to run with a 90-92 1227730 ECM. Well my question is on the IAC unit. I left the 87 IAC unit in and believe I replaced it with a new 87 IAC unit. I went out the other day and the engine was running a little odd, I did not hear the IAC like normal. I pulled the unit out and found the cone on the end unscrewed inside the throttle body. I threaded it back on and now seems to start and run okay, but intermittently the idle will jump from 900 to 1800-2000 RPM and smells like it is running rich and burning fuel more than usual.

I am curious if the IAC I am using is the correct one for my application?

Dose the IAC fit the throttle body per application (87 or 90-92) or should I match the IAC to the ECM/ECU being used (an 87 IAC to an 87 ECM/ECU or a 90-92 IAC to a 90-92 ECM/ECU)?

Re: What IAC to use????

85-92 tpi iac's are the same. I like to use the lower iac plate from a Lt1 just change the harness end or build a pigtail.

Re: What IAC to use????

So if they are the same... why are they two diffrent part numbers AC16 (90-92) and AC1 (89-older) and also the cost for the AC16 is three times as much?

You say you like to use the "lower IAC plate from an LT1" not sure what you mean? I understand to rebuild the harness.

Re: What IAC to use????

you could use a acdelco pt757 or accel 77651 and get the lower iac plate with iac usually on a used throttlebody on ebay for a lti. The lt1 lower coolant /iac housing bolts to a tpi throttle body. huh, looks like there is a difference the 89-92 use a iac coolant housing 17112127 the 85-88 must be different you can see the year date on yours and order the correct iac aswell.

Re: What IAC to use????

My housing/throttle body is from an 86-87... I was curious if I do use a IAC for that housing or should I use the IAC for a 90-92? I am curious is the ECM/ECU is adjusting the IAC differently?
The two IAC from 85-88 and 89-90 look identical physically, but is there some internals of the IAC that are different that the ECM/ECU might be controlling?

Re: What IAC to use????

for example check the link for the throttle body, use the lower plate and iac, if you need a new iac there cheap, gasket set go to autozone and get gp sorenson 96-3008

Re: What IAC to use????

the throttle will bolt on but there is no provision for the 700r4 tv cable, just swap over the lower plate that the iac it attached to. I usually pull out the coolant pipes to clean up the look.

Re: What IAC to use????

I see...
One other thought. When you switch over that lower body and use the newer style IAC. Is the operating range/temp the same? I dont want to start throwing codes cause of the new sensor.

The iac controls a vacuum leak and just moves in and out. Temperature range not sure what you mean ?

Re: What IAC to use????

Not Temp range... sorry I ment that my 1227730 ECM/ECU will read the correct signal from the new IAC valve. So it wont throw a code
