Ignition Promblem! Car Starts Fine But After A Minute The Idle Goes Retarded

Yesterday When I Went To Turn On My Car It Started Up And Was Running Fine But After About 2 Minutes The Idle Got Really Sloppy, Started Backfiring And The Car Died A Few Times As I Was Driving Back Home. It Started Right Back Up Each Time After It Died But The Idle Was Still Running Sloppy, I Let It Cool Off For About 2 Hours & Disconnected The Battery Then I Reconnceted It & Let It Sit For 20 Minutes And Started It. Its Started Up & Ran Fine For The 1st Couple Minutes Then The Cycle Repeated. Does This Problem Sound Familiar To Anyone? I'm Wondering Which Sensors Could Cause That & Could The Ignition Conttole Module Be The Problem? Just Replaced It A Year Ago But Autozone Parts Ain't All That HaHa

My first guess would be the iac valve. There are other things, but i think this is most likely the culprit. Have you checked anything?

Thanks for the reply, yeah i checked the ignition control module & the vacum hoses, I seen in the hand book it says to check the PVC system & also the Knock Sensor so i will check those 2 tomorrow morning. Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but what is the IAC Valve & where is it located?

It's the Idle Air Control valve and controls the amount of air into the engine when you're at idle. It's located on the bottom of the throttle body kinda on the passenger side. Over time it tend to get clogged up with junk and needs to be removed and cleaned.

It could also be a bad O2 sensor. Sounds like it's something when the car goes into closed loop.

Oh Ok It Wouldn't Happen To Be That Squarish 4 Plug Sensor On The Bottom Of The Throttlebody Would It? Yeah I Hit All My Sensors Around The Intake With Sensor Cleaner But I'm Thinking One Of Them Just Went Bad, Also I Heard It Could Be The Knock Sesnor. My Car Runs Fine When I Start It But It Seems After A Minute It Goes To **** & Turns Off So Yeah Pretty Much When It Heats Up A Little & Goes Into Closed Loop

Yes, that's the one. You might want to pull it out to clean it, but I don't think that's your problem. I'd guess it's the O2 sensor, but I guess the knock sensor is a possiblity as well. Be prepared when you remove the knock sensor as it goes into the water jacket and will make a bit of a mess when you remove it.

Check the fuel pressure regulator. It may have went bad.
