well what i did do is, i took the underhood fuse out for a few minutes .then the car dont start AND only code 12??? so the MAF is under warranty so i deplaced it ,thinking maybe. now the car will only start and run with the MAF unplugged.and i find auto zone ect. dont have a listing for the MAF burn off relay which im beginning to suspect.how does a bad MAF burnoff relay affect how the car runs?? is there a seperate code for that??

I think they are ACDELCO Part # ACDELCO Part # 212-300 MASS AIRFLOW SEN PWR relay , ACDELCO Part # 212-305 burnoff relay. I thought you were trying to fix your code 36 ?

well i HAD a code 36 ,till i cleared the codes.now it will start but it backfires and pops and wont rev unless you work the gas.it wont idle ether .also im not getting any codes but the SES light works properly.im wondering if the ign timing being set to 12 deg instead of 4 might have made a problem i cant find. this all started during a burn out.it ran great before.AND as i said it runs great with the MAF unplugged now and i just replaced it ,no diffrence at all. WTF!!??

Re: code 36??

This code is related to the burn off relay failure. The ecm has failed to detect 12V on the black wire going back to ecm pin D12, when the relay is not energized. The most likely cause is a open black wire or orange power wire going back to a fusible link to the battery. With the maf disconnected you are in LHM you still should go through the trouble tree testing. you may have a bad ecm. I believe the timing is 6 dbtdc with the esc disconnected.

NAPA let me down, i went to advance auto and fished thru their relay collection .advance doesent have a listing for the burn off relay SO i ended up just matching the component pic on the side of the relay to one they had on hand!!! the part # is BWD R3009P which comes back as a 84 cadillac fan relay.but its on the car and apparently working,so to all who may also have a TPI on the fritz, be advised parts are getting scarce, but you can keep it alive if you work at it

Re: code 36??

I more fond of the newer style relays like acdelco 15-8240 pigtail PT1115 The are more weather proof as well.
