LT1 MAF on 89 TPI 350?
I have a practically new LT1 MAF laying around from a 95 Z-28, just wondering if it would work on my 89 IROC. The plug looks the same as far as I can tell, thought my stocker could use a replacement since everything else is new. I'm using the 95 LT1 fuel injectors with great success so I thought I'd ask about the MAF. Anyone know if it will work?

Re: LT1 MAF on 89 TPI 350?
I want to say no. Some LT1 cars were OBD I, and others OBD II. In '95, it is probably OBD I. Also, It is either a Bosch or AC Delco. The ECM is probably pinned differently as well even if it is a OBD I '95 Z28. Also, the burnoff operation works slightly different as well. Im not a LT1 guy at all, so all I could do was research.
"A Mass Air Flow sensor has an extremely fine wire inside its bore. The 1985 through 1989 C4 engines used a Bosch MAF sensor that heated the wire to 100 C. The 1994 and later C4 models used a AC/Delco MAF that heated the wire to 200 C. The amount of current required to reach the temperature is measured in each case. Also, the Bosch MAF outputs its information as a analog signal to the computer but the AC/Delco sends its signal as a digital component of varying frequency. For this reason, you cannot measure it's operation directly."

That makes sense, didn't think it would. Thanks for the information!

Re: LT1 MAF on 89 TPI 350?
Guys just happened to be thinking about the same question. Great info. My question now is if the larger LT1 MAF sensor will not work with the tpi cars does anyone make a larger than stock MAF for the TPI cars? My buddy had one on his Buick GN with some sort of transducer. I'm running a well built 383 and I know the stock MAF is costing me power. Although the car runs great I know there is more power in the motor.

a few more but.. nothing seems to work quite as well as the Bosch for our
cars in my opinion. Im sure they are others that use them with success.
Id try to search the boards for past threads about using aftermarket
sensors.
MAF sensors aren't exactly the cheapest thing around in terms of doing
a trial/error part swap! Id be sure it is what you want before dropping
a pretty penny on it.. The bottleneck in the MAF TPI system is one of
the main reasons some like to go with a MAP TPI, it allows more freedom
to do what you wish when ducting a CAI and the like.

Re: LT1 MAF on 89 TPI 350?
SLP used to offer a kit to adapt a Porsche 928s bosch MAF to our cars. Looked completly factory.
It is 92mm (i think) ours is 77mm
Do a search for SLP parts catalog or old SLP parts. I posted it in the history section some time ago.
