Re: Need help with engine please

maybe a few pics will help determine what is done. Sounds like maybe the ecm was changed to one of accel's programable ecm's and the ignition changed to msd.

I would leave all the goodies on the engine great performance adders unless your going to restore it back to somewhat stock condition. If so I would buy some parts off of you. If the ecm is accel and you go back to a 1227730 ecm the aujp memcal gm 16151348 is not that cheap anymore.

Re: Need help with engine please

you will have to do some research and drop the ecm it us under the dash on the passenger side bye the kick panel The only way to know how it is tuned is to datalog or hook up a wideband oxygen sensor like innovate lm1. The superram will be a little pita to remove looks like a somewhat hot engine setup who knows the compression or cam but I wouldnt expect very great mpg.

Re: Need help with engine please

would a dealership be able to do this for a reasonable price? and would you happen to know the avg mpg on it atm?

Re: Need help with engine please

A dealer is going to charge you a arm and a leg to convert it back. For a good used tpi complete you will be about $200-300 with the intake maybe with ecm if you are lucky. This tpi map was used in 90-92 tpi camaros and firebirds and 90-91 corvettes. The ecm's are about $50-60 but the aujp 16151348 memcal is around $400 new and are becoming harder to come bye I have a small stash of them lol. Its hard to say the mpg your getting now it depends on if this is just a superram on a corvette l98 or if a cam has been installed.

Re: Need help with engine please

the superram will just help the engine breath over 4500 and throttle response. The killer of the gas milage would be if someone changed the camshaft and injectors and how the tune is on the ecm or if this is a stroker engine. The only way to know about the tune is to do some home work. I wouldnt change it back to stock unless it was for restoration.

Re: Need help with engine please

I didnt see the supercharger in your pic all thats left is the bracket witch if it was a vortech they are hard to come bye. It looks like the power steering bracket is stock but I don't know if the alternator is mounted down low. The alternator stock location is above the power steering pump. Alot of shops won't touch even tpi Im not sure what to tell you on that. The timing control can damage the engine. Hopefully the knock sensor is still hooked up. The knock sensor will retard the timing if a knock is detected. Since you are not running a supercharger or nos I wouldnt fool with the timing control much if the car is running good the timing must be close or dialed in. You can advance the timing a bit but if you notice a marble in a tin can sound when you are accelerating back off the throttle and turn down the timing advance.
