Lb9 to l05?

Well guys I'm not sure if my motor has ever been replaced but I know my car has 200+k miles on it. So I'm looking for a quick cheap swap from my lb9 to a l05 with swirl port heads. Would I gain or lose power? Could I keep the lb9 cam? Is it worth it? I'm just looking for the pros and cons. I was hoping just for a easy swap and maybe gain a few extra hp. I think my car may be calmed has a touch of a lopey idle but then again got it from a tow yard not running so I have no info from previous owner, but I did have 160 t-stat full msd ignition and an edelbrock water pump.

Re: Lb9 to l05?

Why are you wanting to swap to another used engine?

What is wrong with the one in it now?

Re: Lb9 to l05?

Well te plans were to find a low mileage used engine or buy a crate l05 and tpi it. I'm just looking for reliability and maybe selling my lb9 to my friend to swap into his l03 camaro. I just don't want to be slower then what I was before.

The first thing you/we need to know is what is your budget?

LO5 is not a great choice, IMO.

Re: Lb9 to l05?

"short block" means its motor without heads. Just use all your topend stuff.
You can change heads and intake later if you want or need 2. Don't use swirl port heads tho.

Re: Lb9 to l05?

I know the swirl port heads aren't that great but doesnt isn't a lb9 have 190hp vs a l05 210hp on a tbi set up? The l05 is a reman long block. Could I put the 350 heads on the 305 to sell it? I don't want to sell someone something bad. I just want to be the most cost effective.

Re: Lb9 to l05?

Don't worry about factory ratings, your mixing and matching parts.
LB9 is TPI correct? it has better heads then the TBI.
Change the cam to a LT1 or l98..

Re: Lb9 to l05?

Okay guys here are my options
1. 90k miles lb9 out of a 91 z28 Maybe a lt1 can

2. Vortec 305/350 with my lb9 heads maybe a lt1 or similar small cam

Options ? How much what would be a better hp/tq maker then again my stock engine. Keep in mind this will be my daily driver so I don't want to make it to crazy to lose mpg.
