MAF vs MAP

Converting my old 1/2 ton to TPI. The plenum is for MAF; wish to use MAP. The Plenum doesn't have the hole or tapped holes to mount the sensor; wondering if I can drill into it for the vac line, and tap holes to mount. Anyone have knowlege of this? I prefer the longer fins of the earlier plenums, and would prefer to keep mine, I've got it polished. Thanks for your input.

Use the MAP that the MAF cars had.

Re: MAF vs MAP

Sorry to seem stupid, as I'm new to TPI, can I use the early MAP and just have my harness ECU (have a source) set up for speed densiy?

Re: MAF vs MAP

To my knowlege the MAF systems had no MAP, the MAP was used only on the later (90-92) Speed density systems. If I can't adapt the plenum, I guess I'll get a later plenum.

Sorry, I meant that the TBI cars came with. I believe it's electrically the same.

You can use any vac port as a means of supplying a vac signal to a remote mount MAP sensor as the factory did with some installs
Usual recommendation is to keep the vac line as short as poss to reduce response time

There are ways of making the '165 MAF ECM work with a MAP
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...f-165-map.html

Or you rework the MAF harness to use the later '730 MAP ECM

Re: MAF vs MAP

Yeah is easy to swap maf harness to map and run 730 just need the extra ecm connectors. 730 uses 3, while 165 has 2.

Remote mount the map and it will be fine
