might be leaving the tpi scene (keeping car now)

hey guys.... well I don't know where to put this post but im actually thinking about leaving the thirdgen world... I have been on this site since early 2006 and been officially on the forum since 2007.. Im thinking about parting out my car....

the car just needs too much work( like paint job, dents dents fixed, better aftermarket rear and a manual transmission) to be how I want it to be and i just seem to have lost interest in it.. its just going to cost me too much money to have it setup like I want it too just to be driven occasionally.. I want something that's fast, has AC raido, and good on gas and most importantly can drive everyday and the trans am is none of tha except fast... sorta moved on to the turbo and truck scene...( im currently building a 5 speed turbo truck)... like I said im not for certain yet as to what im going to do but I have really been considering parting out my car on this site...

Re: might be leaving the tpi scene

You won't get much out of the car... Might as well push on and keep plugging away. I was in the same position, but at this point, I have so much money and time wrapped up in mine that there is no point stopping now.

The decision is up to you. But I really suggest it hang onto the car regardless and save it for a rainy day.

I have kept up on your car and it is pretty sweet. The sanding and paint you can do in your spare time. As for the rear, I am sure you could put a budget 8.8 together!

I second that, don't rush it. I've felt the same way, especially looking at the list of things I need to buy to somewhat finish mine lol. It's never easy, but it's soo worth it. Even just getting it done a little at a time. Mine is my fourth vehicle because of that, I know it will take a while. My advice, take some time to really think it over. You'll kick yourself more if you get the itch and end up getting back into the third gen scene later and end up spending more money. Just my two cents man

If I were you, I would complete the T56 swap... By far my favorite thing I have done to my car!

Re: might be leaving the tpi scene

thanks bullydawg... ive been watching your threads and swap over the years.... I had my fun with the car and honestly to be happy with my trans am and everything to run right and look nice, i would have to spend close to 13,000 to have it the way I want it to be..nWAAY to much money for something I don't have passion for anymore and doesn't get driven everyday.. I regret taking the AC and heat out the trans am and ive nearly cut all the wiring out for that and would be a nightmare to put back....i know I will not get much out of it but if I can complete my new engine/ turbo swap for my truck then I will be happy..... I started on the t56 swap but 1500-2000 I put into the trans swap I could be 70 percent complete with the turbo truck that will run circles around my trans am and still retain driveabilit, AC ,heat stereo and 26mpgs and already a 5 speed.. hopefully if I do decide to part it out I can get maybe 2500-3000 grand out of it and that will pay for what I want to do with my truck...

Re: might be leaving the tpi scene

I feel your frustration. Since it is has been cut up from a non DD makes it difficult. One thing it sounds like is clearly having goals. And yours have changed

I have been through several F bodies always sell them because of disposable income at the time but I always miss having a sports car, f body especially after doing a honda, turbo 300zx then a m35. I had to buy my f body and have a new projetc but 1 goal is to keep it. it will be purpose built for weekend cruising so AC is a must in FL but want to sound and look good more then be fastest on the street.

reason being is I always want that classic muscle car v8 cruiser. Although frustrating or expensive you will always find money to dump into any of your other projects that you will dread just as much and in the case of the check 350 it is probably cheaper then any turbo setup to work.

just my 2 cents you will regret selling it for the little you get back. Save up that money instead and then build a 2nd toy

What truck gets 26 mpg? Lol

Try to keep the car on the side if you can. You may regret selling it someday. Can always come back to it later when time and funds allow

That is one nice setup NA car. You have all the right mods. I assume it is custom tuned though? Moates? But maybe not, you had per your profile zz4 cam so maybe trying to keep within ECU parameters.

But I take it iit is not speed or drivabaility just creature comfort of the car that get you and of course a great paint job is always a must.

Re: might be leaving the tpi scene

Just remember that no matter how many times they give you trouble, have some crazy malfunction, all the things needed to keep it current and running, and how much money you put into it, it always seems to not matter the moment just one person tells you how much they love your car and how cool it is. I hated my car at first because of how much work it needed to stay running, but over the years I have really learned to love this more than anything. Some times you are overloaded with things you can do to the car and you are so excited to do them and other times you dread the time you have to go to the garage and fix this one little problem that won't go away. But like I said, it is all worth it in the end. Glad you are deciding to keep it!!!

Re: might be leaving the tpi scene

well I left the car at my parents house. pretty much live in a different city than where I used to do all my work on the GTA at.. i drove it for the first time since late last year and it is definitely a joy to drive... almost forgot how much attention I get with it and the raw power it has.... yea it needs some work but its nothing I cant do with time and money on my side... definitely keeping it now... I almost feel silly wanting to get rid of my first car and spent 5 years working on...

... I remember coming to your house and seeing the Camaro... beautiful car. I recently moved near crabtree valley mall so im probably like 15-20 minutes from you now.. I see you did the t56 swap yourself.... now I know who I can come to when it comes time to swap in my t56...

I see you wanted to use a FIRST intake.... its too bad that ken doesn't have a set date if he ever does get around to building them again... its definitely a much better system than the any the other aftermarket tpi options out there... If I had parted out my car you would have definitely had my FIRST intake seeing how fast and popular your Camaro is..

what I really want to do to my car is a t56 swap and getting it painted....Ive been through 4 built 700r4s and my current 700r4 is messing up in fourth gear... im just sick and tired of autos in my car and this is a huge reason why I did want to get rid of it... I don't want another auto for my gta...

Re: might be leaving the tpi scene (keeping car now)

Really, $2500 is not a lot of money in the big picture. You've had the car this many years, and have put lots of your time over the years into it. If you sell it, today is now, but down the road your going to be one of those people saying to your friends "You know, I should have never sold that damn car!!!"
Like others have said, put it on the back burner for now. I have gone through stages where I didn't even look at the car. But something will bite me and I'll have love and interest in it again.
I know I've plugged this all over the forums... but try going to the TA Nats.. or any other show where there are nice 3rd gens. You'll get the fever again. Look at some of the cars on this site alone... BEAUTIFUL!!! Bruce and the boys at Hawks have even made a case for raising the 3rd gen cars up with the modern community, and lots have followed suite.

Re: might be leaving the tpi scene (keeping car now)

Kind of wish I could keep it but I already have two other cars one of them being a black on black Mustang Cobra that already puts down more power than what my car has and it's a 5 speed..and I plan on modding that further..the trans am needs a paint job badly a new transmission valve guides in the head and a slew of other things and at the end of the day it's still an automatic.. at this point it's costing me money keeping it in storage and the car just rotting away..
