Smog & Cat

I was wondering if it would hurt the car at all if I remove the smog system and the cat? My cat seems to be overheating and causing the floor inside the car to really heat up.

And I was wondering what this part was...

Oh, and does anybody know where the hose goes to coming from the EGR valve?

Thanks.

Re: Smog & Cat

If your cat is getting that hot your engine may be running rich or the cat maybe partially plugged. The egr hose starts at port a under the throttlebody and goes to the egr solenoid then to the egr valve. The picture you posted is of the air diverter valve and heater hose control valve.

The part in the circle? It attaches to a hose and runs back to the smog system... If I remove the smog system would I need to cap off the ends on that? Or just remove it all together and maybe put bolt in its holes? idk.

Re: Smog & Cat

The part circled is the air tubes the line goung to the check valve is npt. I have no idea what you state law is for removing emission devices. The purpose of the air pump is to add oxygen to the exhaust to lower emissions. Removing the air pump lines will result in a rich running condition when the air pump is commanded on. 1mv is added to the o2 reading to compensate for the air added to the exhaust stream.

Re: Smog & Cat

What is npt? And if I remove it would the o2 sensor send a code about it being rich? Would the cat being messed up or clogged cause any of these codes; 23, 34, 44?

Re: Smog & Cat

(Npt) National Pipe Thread , Code 23 is cause bye the ecm seeing the manifold air temperature sensor reading low. Code 34 is a low GPS air flow seen by the ecm. the code 44 is perceived as a lean condition.

So if I reattach the wire right beside the egr, (which goes to the manifold air temperature sensor?) that code should go away?

What is a low GPS air flow?

And how would you fix a "lean" problem?

Thanks.

The mat pigtail does go bye the egr, if you have it disconnected you will throw a code.
What is a low GPS air flow? grams per second

And how would you fix a "lean" problem?

Thanks.

Sounds like you have a bad 1227165 ecm or bad ground behind the passengers side cylinder head
