Dumb Quest: RTV or Gasket for plenum
Well I am going to replace my injectors with south bay. I have the southbays and bought the felpro set. I didnt get the adj FPR but my car is stock and just had fuel system all done and I am at 40+psi so figure Im fine for now
I have seen many people have issues with vac leaks and removing and installing the felpro and using sealant of some sort. Als resealing the middle manifolds bolts for good measure.
My question: Do I use the felpro and RTV lightly to help them seal and stay in place during install? Will that make it impossible to remove later? Or do I just use RTV?
I went to AutoZone but they had so many RTV and then sealants. I think the sensor safe copper RTV is the one to use?
and on the manifold bolts use thread sealant?

This is what I use if a sealer is needed; http://www.permatex.com/products-2/p...aign=gasketing
A thin coat with your finger assures good coverage with less squeezing out while tightening, It never dries hard and parts can be removed without gasket damage.....

That's is what I thought. Just a sealant thin lube on both sides of gasket and torque it down
what about the manifold bolts. thread sealant work to stop oil weeping?
do you use any sealant on the valve cover gaskets?

Just rub a little of the permatex on the screw threads if you want to seal them, Yes on the valve cover gaskets...... There's nothing worse than judging a car show and seeing RTV squished out all over a engine.....

I just did a south bay injector swap on my 89 5.7 formula. I also used the felpro gasket set, and as long as you do a good job cleaning the old gaskets off everything (kind of a pain in the *** especially the intake side of the runners) you shouldnt have to use anything under the gaskets. The felpros seal great just by themselves. I have no leak issues what soever.

I also pulled the middle intake bolts and put a little thread sealant on them, but I think they are still weaping a bit. The only way to stop it all together would be to pull the intake off and start from scratch. I only drive the car once in a while so a little weeping doesnt bother me.

Re: Dumb Quest: RTV or Gasket for plenum
thanks
Hey I am removing the EGR, Dumb question I have a bock off plate but I assumed it would have 2 sides
One for the EGR plate in the intake and another on the manifold. I do not see anything on the manifolds. I am removing the AIR as well. Am I missing something or is the exhaust internal to the intake. All the vac hoses broke and the solenoid for EGR did as well. So I want to remove for future HSR I wil tune them out in tunerpro
I am redoing the valve covers too and man they were bitch to get off not sure how to get them back on without damging gasket. no way to lay them in flat unless I remove wire harness.
