You'll get a lot of different opinions on them. I've had the TW G1's for 5+ years now. I broke most of the springs, but they've solved that problem for new units. I'd say they are a good value. Currently, I'm using the center bolt heads, with Crane Gold 1.5s and an LT4 Hot cam. My headers are the Edelcrock TES's. No clearance issues with the plugs.

I bought a set of TF heads but I am still waiting to install them. I picked up a set of centerbolt 50 state legal ones for $835 from www.jdsperformance.com and I said I could not see spending anoher 700 for AFR's

Trick Flows turn out decent flow numbers but their major shortcoming is a lack of swirl. People don't usually mention swirl because it can't really be quantified.

Just for a second let's say AFR's and Trick Flow's have identical Flow numbers, identical runner volumes, yet AFR's make more power. This difference is the swirl factor and the revised cooling passages of the AFR heads, not to mention the CNC porting and blending of the bowl and throat area, and the runners ... an operation which can eliminate the detrimental effects of core shift.

Also, "You get what you pay for."

I have the centerbolt ones on my car, with a LPE 213 SuperRam cam with 224/234* of duration. IM using a cheap set of proform roller rockers, they fit under the stock valvecovers with no problems.

IM happy with them I would buy them again.

You really don't need specifically pre-87 heads. You can just get a drill bit and elongate the holes on the intake manifold.

there are drilled and tapped vortech heads made to accept pre 86 manifolds, their like $70 more than the regular ones . scroggin dickey sells them i believe. you could also go to the other now cheaper, old standby stock performance heads, camel humps (which contrary to popular belief you can still buy them new from chevy) , or one of the other 4 or 5 hi.po. castings. practice how to port on some junk heads and your good to go.
