Intake manifold splash guard

Got an Edelbrock hi-flow intake installed last summer with AS¤M runners.
Car runs fine, but noticed when cleaning the stock base-plate, that the splash guard was still on it.
I dont remember if the Edelbrock had one, but I believe it didnt.
Guess it should have been transferred?
Drove the car maybe 2000 miles last summer, no problems.
What is the purpose of this splash guard, and does it make much difference?
The inside of the splash guard has a layer of black oil on it.
Please respond if You know, not just guessing, that Im doing myself
Thanks

Under the intake, the metal shield that bolts on to the manifold. I have no idea how necessary or not it is.

Re: Intake manifold splash guard

The splash guard is to prevent oil from burning and carbonizing to the bottom of the intake. The exhaust passages for EGR makes for hot spots that will do this.

If the Edelbrock base doesn't support EGR then no issue with no splash guard. Although some state that it helps keep the intake cooler without the hot oil splashing on it.

Re: Intake manifold splash guard

I bought an Edelbrock Hi Flo back in 2010-11. I had to transfer my guard to the new intake. If you only run about 2000 miles a year, I would think it wouldn't hurt anything, but you could call Edelbrock and get their opinion too.
